New Church Dedication Service was held on 3rd May 2004 Because the church members was almost working in Bamboo Forest.

In 1870,some tamil christian were joined to British Army.They have requested The Major Nyagal to give a place to worship god.Has the days gone by on May 23rd 1873 with the help of wesleyan methodist society a Kannada Church was started & it was called as "Bamboo Church". Though the people are from tamil background still they used to communicate in Kannada. After 7 long years this land was granted

by chief commissoner Govt. of Mysore to Rev.J.Hudson for contration of a School Chapel on 29th May 1880.Site adjoining the Wes-Mis-Compound was given by the muncipality of Hunsur to the Rev.G.W.Sawday.Subsequentally then Devan Sir Mirza Ishmaiel confirm the gift. The church construction was finished on March 1881 with an estimation of 1050/-. First dedication service was held on 20th March 1881 with lot of joy & Benediction was given by Rev.Henry Heg. Till now this church has gone past many generations.At present St.John's Church is one of the most wonderful church throughout southern diocese which is going to celebrate it's 140th church anniversary on 5th May 2013.
