"The mind is everything. What you think, you become." — Buddha

In the quiet corners of our Bodhi tree, we find the space to pause, reflect, and cultivate inner peace. There is no greater investment than the time we take to quiet the noise and reconnect with ourselves. 🌿✨

Key to the Middle Way is a comprehensive text composed by His Holiness the Dalai Lama, wherein he presents the philosophical and spiritual intersection of the Buddhist view of emptiness. With Geshema Dawa Dolma, participants will explore how our deep-seated habit of solidifying identity, suffering, and the world as fixed and inherently real creates unnecessary limitations—and how the Middle Way opens a path to freedom from these patterns. Through guided teachings, you’ll learn to recognize the interdependence of thoughts, emotions, and experience, and to let this understanding shape a more spacious, responsive, and compassionate way of being.Geshema’s teachings are known for her lively, engaging and down-to-earth approach. She meets participants where they are, creating a conducive space for practitioners of all levels. For more information and registration, email us at [email protected]— at Thosamling Nunnery, Institute and Retreat Center.

Dear Community,

We are happy to share that we have officially concluded our 5-day Shamatha Retreat, which ran from May 13th to May 17th under the wonderful guidance of Ven. Tenzin Dekyi.

Shamatha (calm abiding) is an incredible practice for both beginners and seasoned meditators alike. Over five days in a supportive retreat environment, participants learned to strengthen the two pillars of a stable mind: mindfulness and introspection.

Key Highlights of the Training:

The Path: Step-by-step guidance on focusing and concentrating the mind.

The Techniques: Deep dives into Mindfulness of Breathing, Observing Mental Events, and Observing the Nature of Consciousness.

The Breakthroughs: Learning to identify and overcome the obstacles that arise during practice.

The Benefits: Cultivating a mindfulness-based toolkit to reduce anxiety, increase empathy, and foster self-compassion.

Ultimately, the training aimed for five beautiful states: body relaxation, inner silence, attention, stability, and clarity.

Thank you to Ven. Tenzin Dekyi and everyone who dedicated their time and energy to this beautiful practice. Until next time, keep breathing, keep observing, and stay present. 🧘‍♂️💫

We are happy to announce the Vinaya teachings : The Vinaya Teachings will focus on the novice vows. In particular, our discussions and presentations will draw from Je Tsongkhapa’s The Precepts of the Novice, a text composed at Namtze Dhingma and dedicated specifically to explaining the precepts of the novice.

There are 36 precepts that a novice must uphold and protect, and through our sessions we will learn to identify and understand each one of these commitments.

The main purpose of offering these Vinaya teachings is to ensure that those who have undertaken the novice vows do not remain unaware of the precepts they have pledged to uphold—a situation that, unfortunately, is quite common. With the intention of supporting and addressing this gap, we are presenting these teachings. By studying Je Tsongkhapa’s Precepts of the Novice (Composed at Namtze Dhingma), we will explore what each precept entails and how it is to be maintained. This will be the central focus of the Vinaya teachings.

Today we concluded our 7 day Diving into Emptiness: Vipassana Retreat with Ven. Geshe Ngawang Thekchok la.

It was a valuable opportunity for all of us to reflect on the interconnected nature of all things, and to gain a glimpse of how understanding this wisdom can actually bring an end to afflictions and suffering.

Through study and contemplation, we were reminded of the profound truth that nothing exists independently - that, within this realisation lies the possibility of great compassion and true freedom.

Once again, heartfelt gratitude to Ven. Geshela for imparting precious teachings and to all who joined in this journey of reflection and practice.

Today is the last day of the retreat and everyone is gathered in circles, discussing the teachings - revisiting insights, asking questions, unpacking all that we received over the last few days.

The teachings are becoming deeply soul-stirring as Ven. Geshela guides us through the profound Sevenfold Reasoning of Acharya Candrakirti. While many of us are trying to wrap our heads around the subtle layers of the analysis, there’s a shared sense of sincere inquiry and reflection. What feels challenging intellectually is also becoming quietly transformative on a deeper level.
