Swami Chinmayananda teaches that no mortal individual is the ultimate preceptor; the Lord alone is the true, eternal Guru. The external master is merely a chosen deputy or pointer who reflects the inner Divine to guide the aspiring mind until the seeker awakens to their own pure, infinite intellect.

Mortal gurus, idols, and scriptures are valuable aids to cultivate inner purity. They point the seeker in the right direction, but the seeker must walk their own spiritual pilgrimage.

In Vedanta, the true Guru is the pure intellect within, while the purified, deeply aspiring mind acts as the disciple.
