God’s Power in Your Life: Living God's Will

God teaches His people to avoid sin and to live in His ways.

Everything in the Scriptures is God’s Word. All of it is useful for teaching and helping people and for correcting them and showing them how to live. II Timothy 3:16

Do you know that God is calling YOU to live out an extraordinary life by following His commandments and seeking His will for your life? After you have experienced the power of God’s forgiveness, you can allow His power to remake your life in His ways.

Here are ways you can learn to listen for His teachings:

1.Obey God’s Word
“What God has said isn’t only alive and active! It is sharper than any double-edged sword.” (Hebrews 4:12)! The Bible is full of stories that tell of God’s love and hopes for His people. Reading and studying it regularly will help you come to know Him better. When you have questions about what you should do, use God’s Word as “a lamp that gives light wherever you walk” (Psalm 119:105). The stories of the people featured in God’s Word often present great examples of how we should behave (or how not to behave!). No example is better than that of God the Son, Jesus Christ.

2. Jesus Was Called “Rabbi,” Which Means “Teacher”
How can we know that God wants us to learn? Well, while He lived on earth, Jesus took the title of teacher — He was famous for it: even when potential enemies met with him, they said,“‘Teacher, we know that you are honest. You teach the truth about what God wants people to do. And you treat everyone with the same respect, no matter who they are.’” (Matthew 22:15-16). Jesus taught His followers, “If you love me, you will do what I have said, and my Father will love you. I will also love you and show you what I am like.” (John 14:21). Learn what Jesus has to say, and learn to obey those instructions, depending on His power to make it possible for you to do so.

3. Let God Teach You
“I will point out the road that you should follow. I will be your teacher and watch over you.” (Psalm 32:8). God’s power is so great that He knows you: He knows who you really are; He knows your situation; He knows what you want and what you need! Tell Him what you need, and listen for His guidance. The Apostle Paul advised, “Let the message about Christ completely fill your lives, while you use all your wisdom to teach and instruct each other” (Colossians 3:16). Ask trusted Christian friends, family, and leaders for godly support and prayer. Compare their advice with what you find in God’s Word (Acts 17:11) as you seek the power of God’s will in your life.

O Lord, along with Psalm 25:4, I pray that You will show me the right path; and point out the road for me to follow. Amen.

God’s Power in Your Life: The Power To Do God’s Work

No matter who you are or where you are, God can empower you to do His work!

God uses Scripture to prepare and equip His people to do every good work.

II Timothy 3:17

What makes you feel powerful? If you have accepted God’s forgiveness and allowed Him to teach you to walk in His ways, now you can show God’s empowerment in your life.

Here are ways you can show His power through your actions:

1. Don’t Depend On Your Own Strength

God’s power is given in His grace; He can work in your weakness. The Apostle Paul worked in the power of God’s guidance only, and is recorded as doing more to help form the early Church than any other Christian. And it was because he depended on God, not on himself. The Lord told him, “My kindness is all you need. My power is strongest when you are weak.” And St Paul added, “So if Christ keeps giving me His power, I will gladly brag about how weak I am (II Corinthians 12:9-10). Are you willing to let God show his power in your weakness?

2. Let God Lead The Way

If you have accepted God’s power, and are ready to do His work, you might be wondering what to do. First, start by praying to God and consult with other believers about finding God’s will before making any decisions.

Here is an example of listening for God’s leading, found in II Samuel chapter 7. Israel’s ancient King David wanted to build a temple to hold the Ark of the Covenant, and at first, the Prophet Nathan approved this project. However, that night, the Lord instructed Nathan to stop King David, for it was not God’s will to have the building at the time. The Lord later allowed David’s son Solomon to construct the Temple.

We too must be careful to listen for God’s leading, and let Him empower us.

3. Understand The Power Of The Holy Spirit

So how will God empower you? The Bible tells us that “God’s Spirit gives us power, love, and self-control” (II Timothy 1:7). The Lord fills His people “with power and His Spirit” (Micah 3:8) whom Jesus promised to send to all those who have accepted Him.

Are you depending on the Holy Spirit for guidance? If so, you can trust the Lord to empower you and guide you in doing His work.

Pray this week:

Dear Lord, allow me to be weak, so Your power can enable me to do Your will! Amen.

What is Heaven Like?

Spending eternity with God will be a celebration!

On this mountain the LORD Almighty will prepare a feast of rich food for all peoples, a banquet of aged wine — the best of meats and the finest of wines . . . He will swallow up death forever. The Sovereign LORD will wipe away the tears from all faces; He will remove his people’s disgrace from all the earth. The LORD has spoken.

Isaiah 25:6,8
Have you ever wondered what heaven will be like? Some people think that in Heaven, we are going to be floating around like a ghost. This is not true.

Let’s see a few things the Bible says about Heaven:

1. Heaven is a Real Place
Revelation 21:1-2 says, “Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.”

When believers die right now, they are united with God in a heavenly realm. This passage tells us that in the future, Heaven, will be here on the earth. It will be a real place, where we, with resurrected bodies, will walk, talk, sing and worship!

2. Heaven is a Place of Celebration
The Isaiah passage above, describes the great celebration in Heaven — yes, you can call it a party! Another is Revelation 19:9, “Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb.”

Try to imagine a banquet. Now, think of the feast that “the LORD Almighty will prepare” (Isaiah 25:6)! And it won’t just be eating, but celebrating all of God’s mighty works throughout history for His glory.

3. God is There
Revelation 21:3 goes on to say, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God.” The best thing about Heaven is that God himself is there. Now, think about the person you love the most here on earth. We will experience those sensations of love when we meet and live with the One who loved us even before we were born.

This and all pleasures will never grow old, but will get better and better for all eternity.

Pray this week:

Lord, help me to find out more from Your word about Heaven. Thank you that all followers of Jesus will live there forever in perfect peace and joy.

God is Omnipotent
The Unlimited Power of God

O Sovereign Lord! You made the heavens and earth by your strong hand and powerful arm. Nothing is too hard for you!

Jeremiah 32:17
Don’t be scared when you see a big word like ‘Omnipotent.’ It simply means that God has all (‘omni’) power (‘potent’).

God’s power is all around us! His power is shown in many ways, but here are just three that the Bible tells us...

1. God’s Power in Creation
The ancient prophets praised God for creating “the heavens and earth” (Jeremiah 32:17). King David wrote, “The heavens proclaim the glory of God. The skies display his craftsmanship” (Psalm 19:1).

Our understanding of the “heavens” has changed over time. Now we know that there are many galaxies with many stars, separated by great distances. The more we know about the universe and everything in it, the more we can praise God for His mighty power.

2.God’s Power in Resurrection and Redemption
“I want to know Christ and experience the mighty power that raised him from the dead” (Philippians 3:10).

Jesus was tortured and killed by the Roman and Jewish leaders. But the grave could not hold Him; the Roman seal over the stone could not keep Him back. Just as He had predicted, God’s mighty power raised Jesus to life. We who follow Christ should not fear, because God has the last word – even over death. “O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?" (1 Corinthians 15:55).

3.God’s Power at His Return
“Then everyone will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds with great power and glory” (Mark 13:26). Many people today don't want to accept God. The day is coming when He will no longer be hidden. What is the result? “That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father” (Philippians 2:10-11).

If you know Christ as your Savior, take comfort and rejoice in the knowledge that you are protected by the same power that created the heavens and raised Jesus from the dead. If you have not made that decision, don’t wait. Every person will bow in worship; will you bow with shouts of joy or tears of regret.

Pray this week:

Lord, I am amazed at Your mighty power. Help me to see more of Your greatness and to be more in awe of You every day.
