The Committee on Socio-Political Concerns of the Church of North India (CNI) met today, 9 March 2026, and issued a strong call for peace in the midst of ongoing global conflicts. This was stated by Mr. Sanjay Singh, Director of the Committee.

The theme of the discussion was:
β€œA Call to Peace: The Church of North India (CNI) Mourns the Wounds of War.”

The members affirmed: "We speak not as political partisans, but as servants of the Prince of Peace, compelled by our faith and our shared humanity to raise our voice at a time of profound suffering across the globe."

Across several continents today, the guns of war have not fallen silent. Mothers weep for their children. Fathers bury sons they once held in their arms. Entire communities built over generations now lie in ruins. Refugees walk through ash and dust carrying nothing but grief. These are not distant abstractions; they are our brothers and sisters, equally beloved of God.
We issue this statement with heavy hearts, yet with unshakeable hope. We serve a God who is Emmanuel β€” God with us, and we believe that the arc of His justice bends toward peace.

As armed conflicts continue to devastate communities across the world β€” from Eastern Europe to the Middle East, from Sub-Saharan Africa to parts of Asia, including the crisis in Gaza and the Middle East, the war in Ukraine, the crises in Sudan, and the latest tensions involving the United States, Israel and Iran β€” we are compelled by faith and conscience to speak.

The burden of these conflicts is borne not by the powerful but by the innocent β€” children torn from schools, families displaced from their homes, and entire generations robbed of peace.

We are reminded of the words of the Psalmist:
β€œHe makes wars cease to the ends of the earth.” (Psalm 46:9) This is not merely a promise; it is also a responsibility for all people of faith. We commend the tireless work of humanitarian agencies, peacekeepers, and ordinary citizens who risk their lives to bring relief and reconciliation to conflict zones. Their courage reflects the spirit of the Gospel.

We call upon national governments and international bodies to renew their commitment to diplomacy and dialogue. Weapons may silence voices, but they cannot silence grief. Lasting peace can only be built on the foundations of justice, dignity, and mutual respect.

A Word of Hope As the Church of North India, we do not end this statement in despair, but in hope β€” not a naive hope that ignores darkness, but a hope rooted in the resurrection of Jesus Christ, who overcame the deepest darkness of death.

That same resurrection power is at work in the world today: in every act of mercy, every negotiated ceasefire, every refugee welcomed, and every child who receives food and medicine. We believe in a God who makes all things new. Peace is possible β€” not because of human optimism, but because of God’s promise.

As the Body of Christ, we commit ourselves to be agents of peace in our time. We call upon our

congregations to:

β€’ Observe a moment of prayer each Sunday for all victims of war and conflict.

β€’ Support credible humanitarian relief organisations serving affected regions.

β€’ Advocate peacefully for ceasefires and peaceful resolutions to conflicts.

β€’ Show compassion and hospitality to refugees and displaced persons.

The Church has a sacred duty not to look away when the world bleeds. Every life lost in war is a beloved child of God, and every war prolonged is a wound upon the body of humanity.

Let us pray.
Let us act.

And let us not rest until the ploughshare replaces the sword.

β€œFor He himself is our peace, who has made the two groups one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility.” β€” Ephesians 2:14
