The congregation under the Tribal Diocese of kandhamal was initially a part of the Baptist Missionary Society. Later on due to formation of CNI, all the Baptist Churches joined the Churches of North India and became the part of Diocese of Cuttack, CNI. Due to bifurcation of Diocese of Cuttack CNI, the Diocese of Phulbani was created and the Baptist churches from Baptist Missionary Society origin b
ecame a part of the Diocese of Phulabani, CNI. But due to non fulfilment of the declaration by the CBCNI and maladministration by the office bearer s of the Diocese of Phulbani, CNI. irreparable spiritual injures were caused to all simple tribal Christians under the jurisdiction of Diocese of Phulbani. Attempt’s were made by the tribal leaders of Kandhamal to restore the normal administration of Diocese seeking the help of CNI Synod. The tribal Christian leaders of the Diocese represented to the CNI Synod time without numbers for restoration for correcting the maladministration by the office bearers of the Diocese and to give proportionate representation to all the tribal leaders of the Diocese from various Churches, Congregation and Pastorates. All these attempts has yielded no results as because of Finding no other alternative, the aggrieved congregation, Churches, Pastorates of the district of Kandhamal and Rayagada convened a meeting to enforce their freedom of religion as enshrined under Art 25 & 26 of the Constitution of India. It was decided that the new Diocese be formed in the name and style of “Tribal Diocese of Kandhamal”. Congregation, Churches unanimously decided to form a new Tribal Diocese of Kandhamal having the same Baptist faith and order under an Episcopal administration and registered with Government of Odisha on 23th August 2016
