അഷ്ടവൈദ്യന്മാരില്‍ പ്രധാനിയായിരുന്ന വെള്ളുടു നമ്പൂതിരിയുടെ വാസസ്ഥാനമെന്ന നിലയില്‍ മരുന്ന് ഒരുവട്ടം എന്നൊരു സ്ഥലനാമവിശേഷണം, മരുത്തോര്‍വട്ടം എന്ന കൊച്ചുഗ്രാമത്തിന് പൂര്‍വ്വികമായിത്തന്നെ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു. ആലപ്പുഴജില്ലയിലെ ചേര്‍ത്തല നഗരത്തിന്‍റെ തെക്കുകിഴക്കേ അതിര്‍ത്തിയില്‍ ദേശീയപാതയില്‍ നിന്ന് കൃത്യം ഒരുകിലോമീറ്റര്‍ കിഴക്കുമാറി സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന ശ്രീധന്വന്തരിക്ഷേത്രം, മരുത്തോര്‍വട്ടം എന്ന സ്ഥലനാമം അന്വര്

‍ത്ഥമാക്കുന്ന ദേവസ്ഥാനമാകുന്നു. വെള്ളുടു നമ്പൂതിരിയാല്‍ നിര്‍മ്മിക്കപ്പെട്ട ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തില്‍, ആയൂര്‍വ്വേദാധിപനായ ശ്രീധന്വന്തരമൂര്‍ത്തിയാണ് പ്രധാന ദേവന്‍. പാലാഴി മഥനാന്ത്യത്തില്‍ ദേവരക്ഷാര്‍ത്ഥം വൈഷ്ണവാംശമായി അവതരിച്ച ശ്രീ മഹാവിഷ്ണുവാണ് ശ്രീധന്വന്തരിമൂര്‍ത്തി. ശകവര്‍ഷം, കാര്‍ത്തിക മാസത്തിലെ കൃഷ്ണപക്ഷ ത്രയോദശിയിലാണ് ശ്രീധന്വന്തരി അവതാരം. സര്‍വ്വരോഗനിവാരണനും, ആയുരാരോഗ്യ സൗഖ്യദായകനുമായ ശ്രീധന്വന്തരിമൂര്‍ത്തി അവതാരം ചെയ്ത പുണ്യദിനം, ധന്വന്തരി ജയന്തിയായി ആചരിക്കപ്പെട്ടുവരുന്നു.
