The desire to lay down his life for sake of Gospel and Christ inspired Thomas to take up the most extraordinary voyage among the twelve and brought him to India. todays towers as one of the most ancient and vibrant Christian communities that maintains the true apostolic lineage and tradition in the world. God in his awesome wisdom and grace had not taken away the privilege from the children of St. Thomas to build a memorial in his name at the very place which was purified by his holy blood- St. Thomas Mount, Chennai and in fullness of time had shown them the land which was kept aside for this very purpose. "Marthoman Giri St. Mary's Chapel" the name coined by H. Dr. Yuhanon Mar Diascoros, Metropolitan of Madras Diocese, is the project at St. Thomas Mount that whole of Indian Orthodox community look up to its fulfillment. The proposed chapel will also have Bishop's room, the location being just 15 minutes from Chennai Aiport will be ideal to house the Bishops who travel to chennai or transit via Chennai airport
St. Thomas mount in Malayalam is Marthoman Giri, giri means mount. It's our privilege to be in the generation that is building the church at this historical location.
