திருத்தூதர் பவுல் தெசலோனிக்கருக்கு எழுதிய இரண்டாம் திருமுகத்திலிருந்து வாசகம் 3: 6-10, 16-18

அன்பர்களே! எங்களிடமிருந்து நீங்கள் பெற்றுக் கொண்ட முறைமையின்படி ஒழுகாமல் சோம்பித்திரியும் எல்லாச் சகோதரர் சகோதரிகளிடமிருந்தும் விலகி நில்லுங்கள் என, நம் ஆண்டவர் இயேசு கிறிஸ்துவின் பெயரால் நாங்கள் உங்களுக்குக் கட்டளையிடுகிறோம். எங்களைப் போல் ஒழுகுவது எப்படி என்பது உங்களுக்கே தெரியும். ஏனெனில், உங்களிடையே இருந்தபோது நாங்கள் சோம்பித் திரியவில்லை. எவரிடமும் இலவசமாக நாங்கள் உணவருந்தவில்லை. மாறாக, உங்களுள் எவருக்கும் சுமையாய் இராதபடி, இராப் பகலாய்ப் பாடுபட்டு உழைத்தோம். எங்களுக்கு வேண்டியதைப் பெற உரிமை இல்லை என்பதால் அல்ல; மாறாக, நீங்களும் எங்களைப்போல நடப்பதற்காக உங்களுக்கு முன்மாதிரி காட்டவே இவ்வாறு செய்தோம். ‘உழைக்க மனமில்லாத எவரும் உண்ணலாகாது’ என்று நாங்கள் உங்களிடையே இருந்தபோதே உங்களுக்குக் கட்டளை கொடுத்திருந்தோம்.

அமைதியை அருளும் ஆண்டவர்தாமே எப்பொழுதும் எல்லா வகையிலும் உங்களுக்கு அமைதி அளிப்பாராக! ஆண்டவர் உங்கள் அனைவரோடும் இருப்பாராக!

இவ்வாழ்த்தைப் பவுலாகிய நான் என் கைப்பட எழுதுகிறேன். நான் எழுதும் திருமுகம் ஒவ்வொன்றுக்கும் இதுவே அடையாளம். இதுவே நான் எழுதும் முறை. நம் ஆண்டவர் இயேசு கிறிஸ்துவின் அருள் உங்கள் அனைவரோடும் இருப்பதாக!

இயேசு கூறியது: “வெளிவேடக்கார மறைநூல் அறிஞரே, பரிசேயரே, ஐயோ! உங்களுக்குக் கேடு! ஏனெனில் நீங்கள் வெள்ளையடித்த கல்லறைகளுக்கு ஒப்பானவர்கள். அவை புறம்பே அழகாகத் தோற்றமளிக்கின்றன; அவற்றின் உள்ளேயோ இறந்தவர்களின் எலும்புகளும் எல்லா வகையான அழுக்குகளும் நிறைந்திருக்கின்றன. அவ்வாறே நீங்களும் வெளியே மக்களுக்கு நேர்மையாளராய்த் தோற்றமளிக்கிறீர்கள். ஆனால் உள்ளேயோ போலித்தனமும் நெறிகேடும் நிறைந்தவர்களாய் இருக்கிறீர்கள்.

வெளிவேடக்கார மறைநூல் அறிஞரே, பரிசேயரே, ஐயோ! உங்களுக்குக் கேடு! ஏனெனில் நீங்கள் இறைவாக்கினர்களின் கல்லறைகளைக் கட்டுகிறீர்கள்; நேர்மையாளரின் நினைவுச் சின்னங்களை அழகுபடுத்துகிறீர்கள்; ‘எங்கள் மூதாதையர் காலத்தில் நாங்கள் இருந்திருந்தால் இறைவாக்கினர்களின் கொலைக்கு உடந்தையாக இருந்திருக்க மாட்டோம்’ என்கிறீர்கள். இவ்வாறு நீங்கள் இறைவாக்கினரைக் கொன்றவர்களின் வழிமரபினர் என்பதற்கு நீங்களே சாட்சிகள். உங்கள் மூதாதையர் செய்த கொடுமையின் அளவுக்கு நீங்களும் செய்து முடியுங்கள்.”

Second Letter of St. Paul to Thessalonians 3:6-10, 16-18

We instruct you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, to shun any brother who walks in a disorderly way and not according to the tradition they received from us. For you know how one must imitate us. For we did not act in a disorderly way among you, nor did we eat food received free from anyone. On the contrary, in toil and drudgery, night and day we worked, so as not to burden any of you. Not that we do not have the right. Rather, we wanted to present ourselves as a model for you, so that you might imitate us. In fact, when we were with you, we instructed you that if anyone was unwilling to work, neither should that one eat.

May the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times and in every way. The Lord be with all of you.

This greeting is in my own hand, Paul’s. This is the sign in every letter; this is how I write. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with all of you.

Matthew 23:27-32

Jesus said, “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites. You are like whitewashed tombs, which appear beautiful on the outside, but inside are full of dead men’s bones and every kind of filth. Even so, on the outside you appear righteous, but inside you are filled with hypocrisy and evildoing.

“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites. You build the tombs of the prophets and adorn the memorials of the righteous, and you say, ‘If we had lived in the days of our ancestors, we would not have joined them in shedding the prophets’ blood.’ Thus you bear witness against yourselves that you are the children of those who murdered the prophets; now fill up what your ancestors measured out!”

சகோதரர் சகோதரிகளே! நம் ஆண்டவர் இயேசு கிறிஸ்துவின் வருகையைப் பற்றியும் அவரோடு நாம் ஒன்று கூடுவதைப் பற்றியும் உங்களுக்கு நாங்கள் கூற விழைவது: ஆண்டவருடைய நாள் வந்துவிட்டது என, இறைவாக்காகவோ அருளுரையாகவோ நாங்கள் எழுதிய திருமுகத்தின் செய்தியாகவோ யாராவது சொன்னால், நீங்கள் உடனே மனங்கலங்கி நிலைகுலைய வேண்டாம்; திகிலுறவும் வேண்டாம். எவரும் உங்களை எவ்வகையிலும் ஏமாற்ற இடம் கொடாதீர்.

இயேசு கூறியது: “வெளிவேடக்கார மறைநூல் அறிஞரே, பரிசேயரே, ஐயோ! உங்களுக்குக் கேடு! நீங்கள் புதினா, சோம்பு, சீரகம் ஆகியவற்றில் பத்தில் ஒரு பங்கைப் படைக்கிறீர்கள். ஆனால் திருச்சட்டத்தின் முக்கிய போதனைகளாகிய நீதி, இரக்கம், நம்பிக்கை ஆகியவற்றைக் கடைப் பிடிக்காமல் விட்டுவிடுகிறீர்கள். இவற்றைக் கண்டிப்பாய்க் கடைப் பிடிக்கவேண்டும். அவற்றையும் விட்டுவிடக் கூடாது. குருட்டு வழிகாட்டிகளே! நீங்கள் பருகும்போது கொசுவை வடிகட்டி அகற்றுகிறீர்கள். ஆனால் ஒட்டகத்தையோ விழுங்கிவிடுகிறீர்கள்.

வெளிவேடக்கார மறைநூல் அறிஞரே, பரிசேயரே, ஐயோ! உங்களுக்குக் கேடு! ஏனெனில் நீங்கள் கிண்ணத்தையும் தட்டையும் வெளிப்புறத்தில் தூய்மையாக்குகிறீர்கள். ஆனால் அவற்றின் உட்புறத்தையோ கொள்ளைப் பொருள்களாலும் தன்னல விருப்புகளாலும் நிரப்புகிறீர்கள். குருட்டுப் பரிசேயரே, முதலில் கிண்ணத்தின் உட்புறத்தைத் தூய்மையாக்குங்கள். அப்பொழுது அதன் வெளிப்புறமும் தூய்மையாகும்.”

Second Letter of St. Paul to Thessalonians 2:1-3a, 14-17

We ask you, brothers and sisters, with regard to the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our assembling with him, not to be shaken out of your minds suddenly, or to be alarmed either by a “spirit,” or by an oral statement, or by a letter allegedly from us to the effect that the day of the Lord is at hand. Let no one deceive you in any way.

To this end he has also called you through our Gospel to possess the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, brothers and sisters, stand firm and hold fast to the traditions that you were taught, either by an oral statement or by a letter of ours.

May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who has loved us and given us everlasting encouragement and good hope through his grace, encourage your hearts and strengthen them in every good deed and word.

Gospel
Matthew 23:23-26

Jesus said: “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites. You pay tithes of mint and dill and cu**in, and have neglected the weightier things of the law: judgment and mercy and fidelity. But these you should have done, without neglecting the others. Blind guides, who strain out the gnat and swallow the camel!“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites. You cleanse the outside of cup and dish, but inside they are full of plunder and self-indulgence. Blind Pharisee, cleanse first the inside of the cup, so that the outside also may be clean.”

திருத்தூதர் யோவான் எழுதிய திருவெளிப்பாட்டிலிருந்து வாசகம் 21: 9b-14

சகோதரர் சகோதரிகளே,

ஏழு வானதூதர்களுள் ஒருவர் வந்து, “வா, ஆட்டுக்குட்டி மணந்து கொண்ட மணமகளை உனக்குக் காட்டுவேன்” என்று என்னிடம் கூறினார்.

தூய ஆவி என்னை ஆட்கொள்ளவே, அந்த வானதூதர் ஒரு பெரிய, உயர்ந்த மலைக்கு என்னைக் கொண்டு சென்றார்; திருநகரான எருசலேம் கடவுளிடமிருந்து விண்ணகத்தை விட்டு இறங்கி வருவதை எனக்குக் காட்டினார். அதில் கடவுளின் மாட்சி விளங்கிற்று; விலையுயர்ந்த கல் போன்றும் படிகக் கல் போன்றும் அதன் ஒளி பளிங்கெனத் துலங்கியது.

அதைச் சுற்றிப் பெரிய, உயர்ந்த மதிலும் அதில் பன்னிரண்டு வாயில்களும் இருந்தன. வாயில்களுக்குப் பொறுப்பாய்ப் பன்னிரண்டு வானதூதர்கள் நின்றார்கள். இஸ்ரயேல் மக்களுடைய பன்னிரண்டு குலங்களின் பெயர்களும் அவ்வாயில்களில் பொறிக்கப்பட்டிருந்தன. கிழக்கே மூன்றும் வடக்கே மூன்றும் தெற்கே மூன்றும் மேற்கே மூன்றுமாக அவை அமைந்திருந்தன. நகரின் மதில் பன்னிரண்டு அடிக்கற்களைக் கொண்டிருந்தது. அவற்றில் ஆட்டுக்குட்டியின் பன்னிரண்டு திருத்தூதர்களின் பெயர்களும் எழுதப்பட்டிருந்தன.

அக்காலத்தில்

பிலிப்பு நத்தனியேலைப் போய்ப் பார்த்து, “இறைவாக்கினர்களும் திருச்சட்ட நூலில் மோசேயும் குறிப்பிட்டுள்ளவரை நாங்கள் கண்டு கொண்டோம். நாசரேத்தைச் சேர்ந்த யோசேப்பின் மகன் இயேசுவே அவர்” என்றார்.

அதற்கு நத்தனியேல், “நாசரேத்திலிருந்து நல்லது எதுவும் வர முடியுமோ?” என்று கேட்டார். பிலிப்பு அவரிடம், “வந்து பாரும்” என்று கூறினார்.

நத்தனியேல் தம்மிடம் வருவதை இயேசு கண்டு, “இவர் உண்மையான இஸ்ரயேலர், கபடற்றவர்” என்று அவரைக் குறித்துக் கூறினார்.

நத்தனியேல், “என்னை உமக்கு எப்படித் தெரியும்?” என்று அவரிடம் கேட்டார். இயேசு, “பிலிப்பு உம்மைக் கூப்பிடுவதற்கு முன்பு நீர் அத்தி மரத்தின் கீழ் இருந்தபோதே நான் உம்மைக் கண்டேன்” என்று பதிலளித்தார்.

நத்தனியேல் அவரைப் பார்த்து, “ரபி, நீர் இறைமகன்; நீரே இஸ்ரயேல் மக்களின் அரசர்” என்றார்.

அதற்கு இயேசு, “உம்மை அத்திமரத்தின் கீழ்க் கண்டேன் என்று உம்மிடம் சொன்னதாலா நம்புகிறீர்? இதை விடப் பெரியவற்றைக் காண்பீர்” என்றார். மேலும், “வானம் திறந்திருப்பதையும் கடவுளின் தூதர்கள் மானிடமகன் மீது ஏறுவதையும் இறங்குவதையும் காண்பீர்கள் என மிக உறுதியாக உங்களுக்குச் சொல்கிறேன்” என்று அவரிடம் கூறினார்.

Revelation 21:9b-14

The angel spoke to me, saying, "Come here. I will show you the bride, the wife of the Lamb." He took me in spirit to a great, high mountain and showed me the holy city Jerusalem coming down out of heaven from God. It gleamed with the splendor of God. Its radiance was like that of a precious stone, like jasper, clear as crystal. It had a massive, high wall, with twelve gates where twelve angels were stationed and on which names were inscribed, the names of the twelve tribes of the children of Israel. There were three gates facing east, three north, three south, and three west. The wall of the city had twelve courses of stones as its foundation, on which were inscribed the twelve names of the twelve Apostles of the Lamb.

John 1:45-51

Philip found Nathanael and told him, "We have found the one about whom Moses wrote in the law, and also the prophets, Jesus son of Joseph, from Nazareth." But Nathanael said to him, "Can anything good come from Nazareth?" Philip said to him, "Come and see." Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward him and said of him, "Here is a true child of Israel. There is no duplicity in him." Nathanael said to him, "How do you know me?" Jesus answered and said to him, "Before Philip called you, I saw you under the fig tree." Nathanael answered him, "Rabbi, you are the Son of God; you are the King of Israel." Jesus answered and said to him, "Do you believe because I told you that I saw you under the fig tree? You will see greater things than this." And he said to him, "Amen, amen, I say to you, you will see heaven opened and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man."

உன்னை உன் பதவியிலிருந்து இறக்கி விடுவேன்; உன் நிலையிலிருந்து கவிழ்த்து விடுவேன். அந்நாளில் இல்க்கியாவின் மகனும் என் ஊழியனுமாகிய எலியாக்கிமை நான் அழைத்து, உன் அங்கியை அவனுக்கு உடுத்தி, உன் கச்சையை அவன் இடுப்பில் கட்டி, உன் அதிகாரத்தை அவன் கையில் ஒப்படைப்பேன். எருசலேமில் குடியிருப்போருக்கும் யூதா குடும்பத்தாருக்கும் அவன் தந்தையாவான்.

அந்நாளில் தாவீது குடும்பத்தாரின் திறவுகோலை அவன் தோளின்மேல் வைப்பேன். அவன் திறப்பான்; எவனும் பூட்ட மாட்டான். அவன் பூட்டுவான்; எவனும் திறக்க மாட்டான். உறுதியான இடத்தில் அவனை முளைபோல அடித்து வைப்பேன்; அவன் தன் தந்தையின் குடும்பத்தாருக்கு மேன்மையுள்ள அரியணையாக இருப்பான்.

திருத்தூதர் பவுல் உரோமையருக்கு எழுதிய திருமுகத்திலிருந்து வாசகம் 11: 33-36

சகோதரர் சகோதரிகளே,

கடவுளின் அருள்செல்வம் எத்துணை மிகுதியானது! அவருடைய ஞானமும் அறிவும் எத்துணை ஆழமானவை! அவருடைய தீர்ப்புகள் அறிவுக்கு எட்டாதவை! அவருடைய செயல்முறைகள் ஆராய்ச்சிக்கு அப்பாற்பட்டவை! “ஏனெனில் ஆண்டவரின் மனத்தை அறிபவர் யார்? அவருக்கு அறிவுரையாளராய் இருப்பவர் யார்? தமக்குக் கைம்மாறாக ஏதாவது கிடைக்கும் என முன்னதாகவே அவரிடம் கொடுத்து வைத்தவர் யார்?” அனைத்தும் அவரிடமிருந்தே வந்தன; அவராலேயே உண்டாயின; அவருக்காகவே இருக்கின்றன, அவருக்கே என்றென்றும் மாட்சி உரித்தாகுக! ஆமென்.

அக்காலத்தில்

இயேசு, பிலிப்புச் செசாரியா பகுதிக்குச் சென்றார். அவர் தம் சீடரை நோக்கி, “மானிட மகன் யாரென்று மக்கள் சொல்கிறார்கள்?” என்று கேட்டார்.

அதற்கு அவர்கள், “சிலர் திருமுழுக்கு யோவான் எனவும் வேறு சிலர் எலியா எனவும் மற்றும் சிலர் எரேமியா அல்லது பிற இறைவாக்கினருள் ஒருவர் என்றும் சொல்கின்றனர்” என்றார்கள்.

“ஆனால் நீங்கள், நான் யார் எனச் சொல்கிறீர்கள்?” என்று அவர் கேட்டார். சீமோன் பேதுரு மறுமொழியாக, “நீர் மெசியா, வாழும் கடவுளின் மகன்” என்று உரைத்தார்.

அதற்கு இயேசு, “யோனாவின் மகனான சீமோனே, நீ பேறுபெற்றவன். ஏனெனில் எந்த மனிதரும் இதை உனக்கு வெளிப்படுத்தவில்லை; மாறாக விண்ணகத்திலுள்ள என் தந்தையே வெளிப்படுத்தியுள்ளார். எனவே நான் உனக்குக் கூறுகிறேன்: உன் பெயர் பேதுரு; இந்தப் பாறையின் மேல் என் திருச்சபையைக் கட்டுவேன். பாதாளத்தின் வாயில்கள் அதன்மேல் வெற்றிகொள்ளா. விண்ணரசின் திறவுகோல்களை நான் உன்னிடம் தருவேன். மண்ணுலகில் நீ தடைசெய்வது விண்ணுலகிலும் தடை செய்யப்படும். மண்ணுலகில் நீ அனுமதிப்பது விண்ணுலகிலும் அனுமதிக்கப்படும்” என்றார்.

பின்னர், தாம் மெசியா என்பதை எவரிடமும் சொல்ல வேண்டாம் என்று இயேசு சீடரிடம் கண்டிப்பாய்க் கூறினார்.

Thus says the LORD to Shebna, master of the palace: "I will thrust you from your office and pull you down from your station. On that day I will summon my servant Eliakim, son of Hilkiah; I will clothe him with your robe, and gird him with your sash, and give over to him your authority. He shall be a father to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and to the house of Judah. I will place the key of the House of David on Eliakim's shoulder; when he opens, no one shall shut, when he shuts, no one shall open. I will fix him like a peg in a sure spot, to be a place of honor for his family."

Second Reading
Letter of St. Paul to the Romans 11:33-36

Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How inscrutable are his judgments and how unsearchable his ways! For who has known the mind of the Lord or who has been his counselor? Or who has given the Lord anything that he may be repaid? For from him and through him and for him are all things. To him be glory forever. Amen.

Matthew 16:13-20

Jesus went into the region of Caesarea Philippi and he asked his disciples, "Who do people say that the Son of Man is?" They replied, "Some say John the Baptist, others Elijah, still others Jeremiah or one of the prophets." He said to them, "But who do you say that I am?" Simon Peter said in reply, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." Jesus said to him in reply, "Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah. For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my heavenly Father. And so I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it. I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven. Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven." Then he strictly ordered his disciples to tell no one that he was the Christ.

இறைவாக்கினர் எசேக்கியேல் நூலிலிருந்து வாசகம் 43: 1-7ab

அந்நாள்களில்

மனிதர் ஒருவர் கோவிலின் கிழக்கு நோக்கிய வாயிலுக்கு என்னை அழைத்துச் சென்றார். இதோ ‘இஸ்ரயேலின் ஆண்டவரது மாட்சி’ கிழக்குப் பகுதியிலிருந்து வருவதைக் கண்டேன். அவரது குரல் பெருவெள்ளத்தின் இரைச்சல் போல் இருந்தது. நிலமோ அவரின் மாட்சியால் ஒளி வீசிற்று. நான் கண்ட காட்சி, அவர் நகரை அழிக்க வந்தபோது நான் கண்டது போன்றும், கேபார் ஆற்றோரம் நான் கண்டது போன்றும் இருந்தது. நான் முகங்குப்புற விழுந்தேன்.

ஆண்டவரின் மாட்சி கிழக்கு நோக்கிய வாயில் வழி கோவிலினுள் நுழைந்தது. பின்னர் ஆவி என்னைத் தூக்கி உள்முற்றத்திற்கு அழைத்துச் சென்றது. ஆண்டவரின் மாட்சி கோவிலை நிரப்பிற்று.

அம்மனிதர் என்னருகில் நிற்கையில் கோவிலிலிருந்து வேறொருவர் என்னுடன் பேசுவதைக் கேட்டேன். அவர் உரைத்தது: “மானிடா! இது என் அரியணையின் இடம்; என் கால்மணைக்கான இடம். இங்குதான் நான் இஸ்ரயேலருடன் என்றென்றும் வாழ்வேன்.”

அக்காலத்தில்

இயேசு மக்கள் கூட்டத்தையும் தம் சீடரையும் பார்த்துக் கூறியது: “மறைநூல் அறிஞரும் பரிசேயரும் மோசேயின் அதிகாரத்தைக் கொண்டிருக்கின்றனர். ஆகவே அவர்கள் என்னென்ன செய்யும்படி உங்களிடம் கூறுகிறார்களோ அவற்றையெல்லாம் கடைப்பிடித்து நடந்து வாருங்கள். ஆனால் அவர்கள் செய்வதுபோல நீங்கள் செய்யாதீர்கள். ஏனெனில் அவர்கள் சொல்வார்கள்; செயலில் காட்ட மாட்டார்கள். சுமத்தற்கரிய பளுவான சுமைகளைக் கட்டி மக்களின் தோளில் அவர்கள் வைக்கிறார்கள்; ஆனால் அவர்கள் தங்கள் விரலால் தொட்டு அசைக்கக்கூட முன்வர மாட்டார்கள். தாங்கள் செய்வதெல்லாம் மக்கள் பார்க்க வேண்டும் என்றே அவர்கள் செய்கிறார்கள்; தங்கள் மறைநூல் வாசகப் பட்டைகளை அகலமாக்குகிறார்கள்; அங்கியின் குஞ்சங்களைப் பெரிதாக்குகிறார்கள். விருந்துகளில் முதன்மையான இடங்களையும் தொழுகைக்கூடங்களில் முதன்மையான இருக்கைகளையும் விரும்புகின்றார்கள்; சந்தைவெளிகளில் மக்கள் தங்களுக்கு வணக்கம் செலுத்துவதையும் ரபி என அழைப்பதையும் விரும்புகிறார்கள்.

ஆனால் நீங்கள் ‘ரபி’ என அழைக்கப்பட வேண்டாம். ஏனெனில் உங்களுக்குப் போதகர் ஒருவரே. நீங்கள் யாவரும் சகோதரர், சகோதரிகள். இம்மண்ணுலகில் உள்ள எவரையும் தந்தை என நீங்கள் அழைக்க வேண்டாம். ஏனெனில் உங்கள் தந்தை ஒருவரே. அவர் விண்ணகத்தில் இருக்கிறார். நீங்கள் ஆசிரியர் எனவும் அழைக்கப்பட வேண்டாம். ஏனெனில் கிறிஸ்து ஒருவரே உங்கள் ஆசிரியர்.

உங்களுள் பெரியவர் உங்களுக்குத் தொண்டராக இருக்க வேண்டும். தம்மைத் தாமே உயர்த்துகிறவர் எவரும் தாழ்த்தப்பெறுவர். தம்மைத் தாமே தாழ்த்துகிறவர் எவரும் உயர்த்தப்பெறுவர்.”

First Reading

Ezekiel 43:1-7ab

The angel led me to the gate which faces the east, and there I saw the glory of the God of Israel coming from the east. I heard a sound like the roaring of many waters, and the earth shone with his glory. The vision was like that which I had seen when he came to destroy the city, and like that which I had seen by the river Chebar. I fell prone as the glory of the LORD entered the temple by way of the gate which faces the east, but spirit lifted me up and brought me to the inner court. And I saw that the temple was filled with the glory of the LORD. Then I heard someone speaking to me from the temple, while the man stood beside me. The voice said to me: Son of man, this is where my throne shall be, this is where I will set the soles of my feet; here I will dwell among the children of Israel forever.

Matthew 23:1-12

Jesus spoke to the crowds and to his disciples, saying, “The scribes and the Pharisees have taken their seat on the chair of Moses. Therefore, do and observe all things whatsoever they tell you, but do not follow their example. For they preach but they do not practice. They tie up heavy burdens hard to carry and lay them on people’s shoulders, but they will not lift a finger to move them. All their works are performed to be seen. They widen their phylacteries and lengthen their tassels. They love places of honor at banquets, seats of honor in synagogues, greetings in marketplaces, and the salutation ‘Rabbi.’ As for you, do not be called ‘Rabbi.’ You have but one teacher, and you are all brothers. Call no one on earth your father; you have but one Father in heaven. Do not be called ‘Master’; you have but one master, the Christ. The greatest among you must be your servant. Whoever exalts himself will be humbled; but whoever humbles himself will be exalted.”
