30 Kattak- Today marks the Shaheedi Dihaara(Martyrdom Day) of Amar Shaheed Baba Deep Singh Ji

Baba Deep Singh Ji was a devoted Sikh of Guru Gobind Singh Ji.

When he heard that the Mughal forces under Jahaan Khan has desecreted Sri Darbar Sahib(Golden Temple),he went alone with his Khanda(double edged sword) to take revenge for this desecration. He did ardas(prayed) to Guru Ramdas Ji, that he will give his life at Sri Darbar Sahib.

Near Tarn Taran, 5000 Sikhs joined him against the 30000 Mughal men under Jahaan Khan, who mobilised the army on arrival of Sikhs.

During the battle, Baba Deep Singh Ji and Jahaan Khan swung their weapons with great force, leaving both of their heads separated from their bodies.

After seeing this scene, a young Sikh warrior called out to Baba Ji, reminding him of his vow to reach Sri Harimander Sahib. Upon hearing this, Baba Deep Singh Ji immediately stood up, holding his severed head upright on his left palm while holding his khanda in his right hand. He then continued fighting and moving towards Sri Harimander Sahib.

Most of the men in the Mughal army fled away in terror. Baba Deep Singh was able to continue fighting and fulfilled his oath on finally reached Sri Harimander Sahib - there he bowed and lay his head on and gave up his life for righteousness.

Bandi Chor= The liberator of the prisoners

Bandi Chor Diwas commemorates the release of Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji, along with 52 Hindu Rajas (kings), who held the strings attached to the dress of the Guru, from Gwalior prison, by the Mughal emperor Jahangir in 1619.

The prison infamous for no political prisoners prisoner escaping once they enter, Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji provided justice to 52 Hindu Rajas(kings), who were political prisoners, and freed them by insisting Jahangir that those who were unjustly imprisoned should also be released.

The day symbolizes the victory of justice and freedom, and is marked by prayers, festive gatherings, and community service, reflecting the values of courage and resilience in Sikh tradition.
