https://www.facebook.com/groups/mathilakam.arohanam/ It was established on the palm Sunday of 1900 CE. On November 30, 1793 Dionysius the Great – Marthoma VI – laid the foundation stone of the Church at Puthencavu, the present St. During ‘Naveekaranam’ (Reformation) in the Malankara Syrian Church the Vicar of St. Mary's Church, Ayrookuzhiyil Abraham Kathanar (Son in law of Abraham Malpan, the pion

eer of reformation) had control over the Church and so on 9 December 1898 Titus II Metropolitan of The Mar Thoma Church was consecrated as bishop in this Church. The reformers lost the legal battle for possession of the St. Mary's Church. Hence on Palm Sunday, 1900 CE, Kovoor Eipe Thoma Kathanar fixed a wooden cross in a makeshift madbhaha (Sanctum Sanctorum) inside the girls’ school which was still managed by the reformed faction in Kavil Purayidom (where the present Mar Thoma Mathilakam Arohanam Church situates) and started reformed worship. Abraham Kathanar was the first Vicar with Kochalumpalackal Koshy Kathanar and Abraham Kathanar's son Ayrookuzhiyil Joseph Kathanar were asst.vicars under him. While using girls’ school as the temporary Church, Marthomites bought Theruvil Parampil Purayidom (now Puthencavu Mathen Tharakan U. School) and started girls’ school there to continue education of girls. Padinjareveettil Keevarchan and Ayrookuzhiyil Gee Varghese Varkey were co-trustees and Kavil Philipose served as sexton cm assistant. An Udampadi (legal document-agreement) was registered by 32 parishners including the trustees and accountant for the management of the Church. On October 13, 1901 Abraham Kathanar, the first Vicar passed away and Koshy Kathanar succeeded him till 1911 and Ayrookuzhiyil Joseph Kathanar Abraham Kathanar followed him as vicar till 1947. Construction of the Church continued under the first trustees till 1926 when Thekkeveettil T.K.Oommen and Ayrookuzhiyil A.G.Abraham took over as trustees. In 1928 the new church was consecrated in the name of St.Thomas and was called as Mathilakom Arohanom (Ascension) Church by Metropolitan Titus II and Abraham Suffragan Metropolitan.
