I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of wickedness" (Psalms:84:10)
History:-
The history of Christianity in India started with the arrival of Saint Thomas, the apostle of Lord Jesus Christ in the coastal area of Kodungallore (Cranganore) in AD 52. Palakkunnathu Abraham Malpan and Kaithayil Geevarghese Malpan envisaged the true spirit of Gospel as a vis
ion of life and started the ‘Movement of Reformation’. This resulted in the formation of Malankara Mar Thoma Church, focusing on evangelism and Christian witness in the year 1836. Our forefathers decided to accept and follow the programmes of reformation by relying on their trust in Almighty God. They decided to separate their virtual relations by giving up all hereditary and rightful material possessions from Puthencavu Valiya Palli. Inspired by the Holy Spirit, our forefathers with their insight and sense of the need for a new church in the locality of Mulakuzha, bought a land (where our Church presently exists) for 400 Raassi (equivalent of Rs.140/-) from Muttathil Sri Mathen Yohannan and registered it in the names of Malayil Ezhikkakathu Sri.Cherian Varughese, Chenpanchira thekethil Mannil Sri.Kochaippa Kurien, Chakkalayil Sri.Koshy Cherian, Thundupurayidathil Sri.Varkey Korula, Pulipra thekkel Sri.Chacko Chacko, Malayil Thottunkara Sri Vareed Mathen and Kuzhiyil Kizhakkethil Sri Geevarghese Mammen on 23rd Kumbham 1075( Malayalam year). Muttathil Palli:-
A temporary thatched shed was constructed on this land and on 03-02-1901,Kochalumplackal Koshy Kathanar administered Holy Sacrament (Qurbana) and named this new place of worship as ‘Muttathil Church’. The devout followers of of the newly formed church continued worship here for about 30 years and later the church was re-christened as “ Mulakuzha St.Thomas Mar Thoma Church” as per the Kalpana of Mar Thoma Metropolitan.Another milestone in the growth of the Church was the official approval for cemetery in the premises of the church during this period. New Church Building:-
As the Church grow in spiritual and numerical strength, the parishioners decided to construct a permanent Church building and His Grace Titus 2nd Mar Thoma Metropolitan laid the foundation stone for a new church on 07-03-1913. After 19 years of sustained and dedicated efforts for the construction work, Rev. Mammen conducted worship on 06-02-1932 and dedicated the Church for worship. With great enthusiasm and co-operation,our forefathers continued their efforts for physical improvement in the church for eleven years and the full fledged Church was Consecrated by His Grace Titus 2ndMar Thoma Metropolitan in a solemn ceremony on 03-04-1943.Rt.Rev.Abraham Mar Thoma Suffragan Metropolitan, Rt.Rev.Yuhanon Mar Timotheus Episcopa, Rt.Rev.Mathews Mar Athanasios were co-celebrants on the historic occasion.
