Photographs from the official launch of the English translation of “The Glorious Hevajra Tantra,”published by 84000: Translating the Words of the Buddha.

The inauguration ceremony was presided over by His Holiness the Sakya Gongma Trichen Rinpoche at the holy site of Bodh Gaya during the Sakya Monlam Chenmo.

The event was organized through the joint collaboration of the Sakya Monlam Foundation and 84000.

When you gaze at the face of this incredible image, it captivates a mind that was distracted by the world, at least for a while. In doing so, you will feel a sense of tranquil space for a moment. If you don’t believe it, please just try it for yourself when you are here at Bodhgaya, standing before the Mahabodhi. Then you will experience exactly what I am talking about.

However, that is not my main point today. What I want to say is that this image was made by human hands. It does not arise purely from the causes and conditions of the Buddha himself. It is an image of the Buddha, not the Buddha himself. Because of this, you might ask: Why do I bow before it? Why do we offer clothes, flowers, and fruit? The image is not the Buddha, the Dharma, or the Sangha, it is something we created. The image cannot even change its own clothes, yet we offer it the most expensive robes. It cannot eat, yet we constantly fill the begging bowls every day. Many people think this is a waste and that we should rather give these things to the beggars on the street.

མ་ལུས་འགྲོ་བའི་དགེ་བའི་རྩ་བའི་མཐུས།།
སྤྱན་རས་གཟིགས་དབང་བསྟན་འཛིན་རྒྱ་མཚོ་ཡི།།
ཞབས་པད་ཞལ་བཞེས་བཞིན་དུ་བརྟན་པར་ཤོག།།

No matter how bright the sun’s rays may shine,They cannot uproot the darkness of cyclic existence.But by the light of the Glorious Guru’s wisdom,The darkness in the minds of countless beings is dispelled.

No matter how cool the moon’s glow may feel,It cannot extinguish the raging fire of attachment and aversion.But by the cooling rays of the Glorious Guru’s compassion,The torment of the mind is soothed from its very depths.

In all my future lives and rebirths,May I be born at the feet of the Glorious Guru.And when enlightenment is reached at the Vajra Seat,May we attain manifest Buddhahood together in one assembly.

Maha Guru Padmasambhava himself, in an incredible, unmatchable human form, embodying every aspect of the greatest and ultimate Buddhist Guru.
The Guru, the Lama, under whom all living creatures will take refuge, and upon whom all deceased spirits or consciousnesses strongly rely.
He is the embodiment of every Tathagata, all Bodhisattvas, the entire Dharma, all Dharmapalas, and wealth deities.
To the Guru Vajradhara Sakya Gongma Trichen Dorje Chang, I bow down and strongly request that this marvelous human form remain forever for us, for all sentient beings.

His Holiness Chabgon Sakya Gongma Trichen Dorje Chang is bestowing initiations to thousands of Mahasanghas and lay people, including the head abbot of Palyul Namdroling Monastery, His Holiness Munsang Tulku, and Khenpos and Tulkus, at one of the six main seats of the Nyingma tradition, it is His Holiness Drubwang Pema Norbu Rinpoche’s golden temple in south India.
