Vazhappadathu Temple Renovation
Vazhappadathu, an ancient “Tharavadu” in Perunnai West, Changanacherry , once upon a time was well known for its relationship with the Rulers of the “Edappally” and “Thekkumkoor” dynasty during their rein and undoubtedly Vazhappadathu Panickers (Unnithan) had a great role to play then. The Power, the Wealth and the Rights etc. etc. they had, could be a reason attained them a space in the “Eithihya Kadhakal” written by Mahopadhyaya Shri.K.S.Neelakantanunni-sub-titled “Arayiruthil Bhagavathiyum Vazhappallil Panickarum”.
Historically, traditionally and religiously Vazhappadathu has a vital relationship with Sree Subramanya Swami Temple in Perunnai and despite the present financial hiccup, all the traditional Poojas and the other rights to and at the temple are still going on without any break or excuse, which having been performed since the time of ancestors. They do also have a great role to play during “Karthika”, “Purappadu” ” Pallivetta” and Aarattu”.
Vazhappadathu Sree Bhadra Kali Temple, Sarpa Kavu and the Padippura are of more than 200 years old. As the renovation of both Temple and Kavu were indispensible due to a fear of collapse, a” Trust” was formed around three years back and first of all the Trust took the initiative of renovating the Sarpa Kavu, then conducted a “Deva Prasnam”, then the Parihara Karmangal (poojas) as per the “Prasna Charth” for long continuous seven days and Idol of the Devi was shifted to “Balalayam” (temporary shelter) and for all these, the Trust had to face a lot, but spent about 7-8 lakhs with the help of all those good people who have contributed to their best in the name of God. I know a word “thanks” is not enough to them for their deed and timely help – but a big ‘THANKS”.
A word about the Sarpa Kavu – the new Kavu has been constructed and the Punaprathishta (Idol shifting back ceremony) from the Balalayam to the new Kavu took place on 07th Novermber 2011 performed by Thanthri (Chief Priest) Aamedamangalam Brahmasree M.S. Vasudevan Nampoothiri. 15 minutes just after the poojas commenced, a very long and unusual kind of serpent appeared very close to the Serpent Idol and the priest and stayed back for about 45 minutes until the poojas were over, which witnessed by hundreds of people for them it was an unbelievable and unforgettable experience. Thanthri commenced it as an unusual and quite rare experience for himself too.
The annual Kavil Pooja–(Sarpa Pooja, Noorum Palum and Sarpa Bali) is normally carried out in November (Thulam) every year and Thanthri (Chief Priest) Paramboor Illathu Brahmasree Padmanabhan Bhattathiri performs all poojas since the time of parihara karmangal.
The Anugya (permission) is sought for 3 years of which one year is already lapsed and except the site selection, temple plan and model , the temple construction is yet to be commenced due to extreme financial hardship. Now the one and only hope is “YOU “ – through this humble appeal.
All religious devotees / well wishers interested in helping us by extending their valuable hand – no matter what ever be your contribution – MANY A MUCKLE MAKES A MICKLE –(“ Pala Thully Peruvellam” ) in bringing up this temple renovation task (new temple model is attached – estimated to be around 20 lakhs) , may kindly do it in the name of God so that the almighty ” Devi” will definitely bestow her blessing upon you and your family.
Wish you and your family all the blessings and prosperity from Devi and the Sarpangal.
