17th Sunday after Pentecost
Theme: God Does Not Abandon His People When They Go Astray
Beloved in Christ,
Grace and peace to you in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. As we celebrate this 17th Sunday after Pentecost, our theme powerfully reminds us that God never abandons His people, even when they wander away. Through the words of the prophet Hosea, we hear God’s heart: “When Israel was a child, I loved him… How can I give you up, Ephraim?” (Hosea 11:1,8). Our heavenly Father’s love is deeper than human failure; His mercy calls us back when we have gone astray.
The Gospel from Luke 15 paints a beautiful picture of this truth — the shepherd leaves the ninety-nine to find the one lost sheep, and heaven rejoices over one sinner who repents. God does not simply tolerate our return; He welcomes us with joy and restores us fully.
This Sunday also invites us to live out the same grace. In his letter to Philemon, Paul urges forgiveness and reconciliation, reminding us that God’s love transforms broken relationships.
May we draw near to the Lord with repentant hearts, trust His unfailing love, and extend that same grace to others around us.
In Christ’s service,
Rev. Anthony Amair

Presbyter’s Desk:
No Cheap Grace—The Cost of Following Christ
16th Sunday after Pentecost | Liturgical Colour: Green
Discipleship is not a casual walk—it is a costly journey. In Luke 14:25–33, Jesus challenges the crowd: “Whoever does not carry their cross and follow me cannot be my disciple.” This is not a call to comfort, but to commitment. Like the merchant who sold everything for a precious pearl (Matthew 13:45–46), true discipleship demands surrender.
Joshua 24:14–24 reminds us that following God begins with a clear decision: “Choose this day whom you will serve.” Discipleship is not inherited—it is chosen daily. 1 Thessalonians 3:1–8 shows us that trials are part of the path. Paul sends Timothy to strengthen the church, knowing that suffering tests faith. And Psalm 34:11–22 calls us to turn from evil and do good, trusting that the Lord delivers the righteous—even when the cost is great.
Today, let us count the cost—not to avoid it, but to embrace it. Let us choose Christ with clarity, endure hardship with courage, commit with thoughtfulness, and serve with obedience. The green of Pentecost reminds us: growth comes through sacrifice. May we not merely admire Jesus, but follow Him—whatever the cost.
