Born on 25TH MARCH, 1940 IN LYALLPUR, PAKISTAN (UNDIVIDED INDIA). Matric from Bishop Cotton School, Shimla, Senior Cambridge from Scindia School, Gwalior, B.E. Mechanical from IIT Kharagpur MBA from Harvard University in the year 1966. First Time he was elected as MLA in the year 1969 from Ropar Constituency and four times from Morinda in the years 1977, 1980, 1985, 1997. He was elected twice as a

Speaker, Punjab Vidhan Sabha for the period from 1977 to 1980 and from 1985 to 1986. He worked as Working Committee Member of Akali Dal from 1973 to 1999. He also took part in Delhi Gurdwara Agitation in the year 1971 and remained in Jail for 4 ½ months.
