🙏 Make me like Myrrh, O LOrd !

One of the gifts that the wise men offered to Jesus was ‘Myrrh’.

What does it signify? Let us see.
Myrrh has a number of properties:

👉 Preservative properties, delays decomposition.(John 19: 39)
It was brought by Nicodemus for Jesus’s burial as per Jewish custom.

Let your lives be such that they preserve what God has brought about in you and in others, delay decomposition in your life and the lives of God’s people till the time the resurrection life of the Lord Jesus takes over.
Preserve your life from decay, physically remove yourself from places,people and objects which can cause you to sin until that particular sin stops controlling you, or you die to that sin completely.

👉It is used as a perfume.(Esther 2:12)
The oil of myrrh was used by queen Esther.
Let our lives be such that it brings out a fragrance.When we are humble, kind, gentle,polite and live a holy life we leave a pleasant smell. But when we are rude, proud, aggressive and live unholy lives, we leave a stink.

👉It is used as a pain killer/ analgesic.(Mark 15:23)
Wine mixed with myrrh was offered to the Lord at the cross but he refused to take it as he did not want to reduce his agony.
Our lives must reduce the pain in the lives of others. Our words,our actions must be to heal people’s emotional wounds. The Lord reduced the pain in the lives of people. Let us begin with our homes, our church, our locality, our relatives, our friends and others. Our Lord is immensely pleased with these kinds of sacrificial gifts.

👉It is also used as an anointing oil.(Exodus 30: 23)
Myrrh was blended with other spices to make the sacred anointing oil which was used to anoint the tent of meeting, its objects and the high priest. It turned something ordinary into something sacred, qualified to be used by God.
Our lives must be such that we turn ordinary lives into something sacred to be used by God and not by men.

🏆 Gifts of the Wise men

🙏 Let not my will Lord but let your will be done!

The wise men came prepared to worship and offer their gifts to God.
They did not look out for their benefit but God’s benefit.
They offered three kinds of gifts to the Lord Jesus. Gold, Myrrh and Frankincense. These three types of gifts speak volumes to us as nothing in the word is written without a purpose.

Lets see what they signify spiritually:

👑 GOLD: It signifies purity. It goes through an extensive process of purification after being extracted from the earth in its impure form- Gold ore.
A gold ore has less value as compared to its pure form. When it goes through a refining process by fire, it comes out as pure gold which is precious.

APPLICATION: We are also physically and spiritually extracted from the earth and the world.
When we go through a process of sanctification or refining by the holy spirit then our value increases in the sight of the Lord.
We become precious and that is the gift we must place before the Lord in worship, the gift of purity, the gift of great value.

HOW DOES THE REFINING HAPPEN ?

When we go through different situations in life, we run to God and seek His will for our lives in that situation.
Draw grace from Him and obey Him in that particular situation however difficult or easy it might be and ask God to change us according to His perfect will.
Then our faithful God changes us as promised in Malachi:

“I will refine them like gold.” Malachi 3:3

A child of God must be willing to go through the refining process in which the will of the person is not done but the will of the owner or the refiner is done.

Lets purify ourselves for God so that we can offer him a worthy sacrifice.
