ਸ੍ਰ ਹਰਬਖਸ਼ ਸਿੰਘ ਉੱਨੀ ਸੌ ਚੁਤਾਲੀ ਵੇਲੇ ਮਲੇਸ਼ੀਆ ਵਿੱਚ ਤਾਇਨਾਤ ਸਨ..ਇੱਕ ਦਿਨ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਸਿੰਘ ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਫੌਜੀ ਨੂੰ ਮੋਟਰ ਸਾਈਕਲ ਮਗਰ ਬਿਠਾ ਜੰਗਲ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਰੇਕੀ ਕਰਨ ਲੰਘ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ ਕੇ ਜਪਾਨੀਆਂ ਘਾਤ ਲਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ..ਗ੍ਰਨੇਡ ਦੀਆਂ ਕੰਕਰਾਂ ਸਿਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਜਾ ਧਸੀਆਂ..ਦੋਵੇਂ ਡਿੱਗ ਪਏ..ਜਪਾਨੀਆਂ ਠੁੱਡ ਮਾਰ ਵੇਖਿਆ..ਫੇਰ ਮਰਿਆ ਸਮਝ ਛੱਡ ਗਏ..!

ਕਿਸੇ ਹਸਪਤਾਲ ਪਹੁੰਚਾਇਆ..ਫੇਰ ਸਿੰਗਾਪੁਰ ਤਿੰਨ ਦਿਨਾਂ ਮਗਰੋਂ ਹੋਸ਼ ਆਈ..ਸਿਰ ਤੇ ਪੱਟੀਆਂ ਸਨ..ਕੋਲ ਇੱਕ ਗੋਰੀ ਵੋਲੇਂਟਿਰ ਕੁੜੀ ਬੈਠੀ ਸੀ..ਦੱਸਣ ਲੱਗੀ ਕੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਸਿਰ ਦੇ ਓਪਰੇਸ਼ਨ ਵੇਲੇ ਮੈਂ ਡਾਕਟਰ ਨੂੰ ਵਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਨ ਕੱਟਣ ਦਿੱਤੇ..ਮੇਰਾ ਕਰਨਲ ਬਾਪ ਅਕਸਰ ਦੱਸਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਕੇ ਇੱਕ ਸਿੱਖ ਲਈ ਕੇਸ ਕਿੰਨਾ ਮਹੱਤਵ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਨੇ..ਹਰਬਖਸ਼ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਕੁੜੀ ਅਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਸ਼ੁਕਰਾਨਾ ਕੀਤਾ..!

ਸੰਤਾਲੀ ਦੀ ਵੰਡ ਮਗਰੋਂ ਸੰਨ ਪੈਂਠ ਦੇ ਲੜਾਈ ਵੇਲੇ ਪੱਛਮੀਂ ਕਮਾਂਡ ਦੇ ਮੁਖੀ ਸਨ..ਫੌਜ ਦੇ ਮੁਖੀ ਜਰਨਲ ਚੋਧਰੀ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ ਬਿਆਸ ਤੀਕਰ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਆ ਜਾਵੋ..ਪਾਕਿਸਤਾਨੀ ਟੈਕ ਸੁਨਾਮੀ ਵਾਂਙ ਜੂ ਚੜੇ ਆਉਂਦੇ ਸਨ..ਹੁਕਮ ਮੰਨਣ ਤੋਂ ਨਾਂਹ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੀ..ਅਖ਼ੇ ਨਨਕਾਣਾ ਤੇ ਪਹਿਲੋਂ ਗਵਾ ਚੁਕੇ ਹਾਂ ਹੁਣ ਦਰਬਾਰ ਸਾਬ ਗਵਾਉਣ ਦੀ ਗੁੰਜਾਇਸ਼ ਨਹੀਂ..ਫੇਰ ਡੇਰਾ ਬਾਬਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੈਕਟਰ ਥਾਣੀਂ ਲਾਹੌਰ ਤੀਕਰ ਜਾ ਅੱਪੜਿਆ..ਜੰਗ ਜਿੱਤੀ..ਮਗਰੋਂ ਪੂਰੀ ਦੀ ਪੂਰੀ ਫੌਜੀ ਲੌਬੀ ਵਿਰੋਧ ਵਿੱਚ ਖੜ ਗਈ..ਅਖ਼ੇ ਇਸਦਾ ਕੋਰਟ ਮਾਰਸ਼ਲ ਕਰੋ..ਸੀਨੀਅਰ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਮੰਨਿਆ..!
ਪਰ ਉਸ ਵੇਲੇ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਲਾਲ ਬਹਾਦੁਰ ਸ਼ਾਸ਼ਤਰੀ ਹਿਮਾਇਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਖਲੋ ਗਿਆ..ਅਗਲਾ ਫੌਜ ਦਾ ਮੁਖੀ ਬਣਨਾ ਤਹਿ ਸੀ ਪਰ ਅਚਾਨਕ ਲਾਲ ਬਹਾਦੁਰ ਮੁੱਕ ਗਿਆ..!
ਮੁੜਕੇ ਬਣੀ ਇੰਦਰਾ ਗਾਂਧੀ ਧੁਰ ਅੰਦਰ ਕੋਈ ਡੂੰਘਾ ਵੈਰ ਪਾਲੀ ਬੈਠੀ ਸੀ..ਇਸਨੂੰ ਪਰਾ ਕਰ ਮਾਣਕ ਸ਼ਾਹ ਨੂੰ ਮੁਖੀ ਬਣਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ..!

ਪਰ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਸਿੱਖੀ ਪ੍ਰਤੀ ਪਿਆਰ ਬਿਲਕੁਲ ਵੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਘਟਿਆ..ਜੂਨ ਚੁਰਾਸੀ ਮਗਰੋਂ ਜਰਨਲ ਰਣਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਦਿਆਲ ਨੂੰ ਉਲ੍ਹਾਮਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਕੇ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਦਰਬਾਰ ਸਾਬ ਤੇ ਹਮਲੇ ਵਾਲੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਦੀ ਹੁਕਮ ਅਦੂਲੀ ਕਰ ਦੇਣੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਸੀ..ਮਗਰੋਂ ਜਦੋਂ ਸਿੱਖ ਫੌਜੀ ਭਗੌੜੇ ਹੋਏ ਤਾਂ ਓਹਨਾ ਦੇ ਕੋਰਟ ਮਾਰਸ਼ਲਾਂ ਵੇਲੇ ਖੁਦ ਦੀ ਸਮੂਲੀਅਤ ਨੂੰ ਇਸ ਦਲੀਲ ਤੇ ਸਹੀ ਸਿੱਧ ਕੀਤਾ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਸਿੱਖ ਮਾਨਸਿਕਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਸਹੀ ਤਰੀਕੇ ਨਾਲ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹਾਂ..ਨਵੰਬਰ ਚੁਰਾਸੀ ਵੇਲੇ ਦਿੱਲੀ ਘਰ ਤੇ ਭੀੜ ਚੜ ਆਈ..ਖੁਦ ਕਾਰਬਾਈਨ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਕੋਠੇ ਤੇ ਚੜ ਗਿਆ ਤੇ ਨਾਲ ਦੋ ਰਾਈਫਲਾਂ ਫੜਾ ਧੀਆਂ ਵੀ ਚੜਾ ਲਈਆਂ..ਇੱਕ ਦੋ ਫਾਇਰ ਕੀਤੇ..ਭੀੜ ਦਾ ਹੀਆ ਨਾ ਪਿਆ..!

ਅਕਸਰ ਆਖਿਆ ਕਰਦੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦਗੀ ਤੇ ਮਲਾਯਾ ਦੇ ਜੰਗਲਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਹੀ ਉਧਾਰ ਤੇ ਟਿਕੀ ਹੋਈ ਏ..ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਕੋਈ ਕਾਰਜ ਕਰਵਾਉਣਾ ਸੀ..ਤਾਂ ਹੀ ਹੱਥ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਰੱਖਿਆ..!

ਸੋ ਦੋਸਤੋ ਇਤਿਹਾਸ ਦੇ ਪੰਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਕੁਝ ਐਸੇ ਹੀਰੇ ਸਾਂਭੀ ਬੈਠੇ ਨੇ ਕੇ ਜਿਹਨਾਂ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਸ਼ਰਤਾਂ ਤੇ ਹੀ ਨੌਕਰੀ ਕੀਤੀ..ਕਿਸੇ ਦੀ ਈਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਮੰਨੀ..ਨਾ ਹੀ ਕਿਸੇ

Wing Commander Sukhmandar Singh Sidhu ( Shaurya Chakra)

Flight Lieutenant Sukhmander Singh Sidhu of a Helicopter Unit carried out 94 sorties involving 43 hours of flying from dawn to dusk during the five days of Flood Relief Operations in Patna area. He successfullv air dropped 25 tonnes of relief supplies during that short time over the marooned houses and thus saved many valuable lives. Prior to this he had carried out 21 hours of flying during the flood relief operations in Orissa. During these relief operations, Flight Lieutenant Sukmander Singh Sidhu displayed courage, professional skill and devotion to duty of a high order.
