Deer Park Institute

Deer Park Institute Deer Park Institute is a centre for study of classical Indian wisdom traditions. Language courses in Sanskrit and Tibetan are offered on a regular basis.

Deer Park is still a very young centre and the curriculum is being developed gradually. Since opening in March 2006, the Institute has hosted teachings by great masters of all lineages of Tibetan Buddhism, as well as courses and retreats in the Zen and Theravadin traditions. Courses on other classical Indian philosophy, such as Patanjali's Yoga Sutras and Kashmiri Shaivism, are gradually being int

egrated into the program. Apart from the vision of growing into a modern day Nalanda, the vast range of programs offered were also based on the ecumenical tradition, known as Rime in Tibetan. Dzongsar Jamyang Khyentse Rinpoche had this to say about the idea behind Deer Park and the Rime tradition:

"Buddha said that at the core of Buddhist practice, three things one should avoid - desire, anger, and ignorance. Rime liberates one from these. The spirit of Rime should not be understood as a sort of new age movement where everything is collected under one roof. Dissolving sectarianism is the quintessence of Rime. Historically, human beings have suffered because of their attachment to their countries, concepts, and especially religions. They become attached even within their particular sect of that religion. This attachment can be expressed as anger towards others or at least a sort of disinterest in the activities of others." "At least between Buddhist sects there has been no bloodshed, only the loss of many great teachings. Buddha's teaching is like a lion's roar, simhanada. The only danger to a lion is decay from within. And to prevent this it is essential for the authentic teachings of the Buddha to be studied and practiced with a vast attitude."

2–12 December 2025

The 20th International Tipitaka Chanting Ceremony in Bodhgaya was organized by the Light of Buddha Dharma Foundation International (LBDFI) and the International Tipitaka Chanting Council.

Siddhartha’s Intent Society/Deer Park Institute officially collaborated on this program, along with 17 other Buddhist organizations in India.

To revitalize the Buddha Sasana (Buddha Shakyamuni's teachings) in India, the Light of Buddha Dharma Foundation International (LBDFI) was founded in 2002 by the renowned Tibetan Buddhist master Venerable Tarthang Tulku Rinpoche. His daughter, Dr. Wangmo Dixey, has served as the Foundation’s long-standing Executive Director. His son-in-law, Dr. Richard Dixey (Khyentse Foundation Advisor and member of the Khyentse Foundation–India Program Committee) serves as Associate Director of the Light of Buddha Dharma Foundation International and is a key visionary behind major initiatives such as the International Tipitaka Chanting Ceremony.

While Venerable Tarthang Tulku Rinpoche established LBDFI to revive Buddhism in India, Dr. Wangmo Dixey leads its activities and oversees its international collaborations.

Venerable Tarthang Tulku Rinpoche is a student of Dzongsar Khyentse Chökyi Lodrö and Dzongsar Jamyang Khyentse Rinpoche.

Around 20,000 Dharma followers from India and 22 other countries attended this sacred program under the holy Bodhi Tree in Bodh Gaya, Bihar, India.

“Many people believe that if you sit and meditate a lot, you don’t have to read or study anything at all. That approach is one-sided and leaves no room for sharpening the intellect or disciplining the mind. Study and scholastic learning play an extremely important part for us.”
—Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche

“Befriending Siddhartha,” the Middle Way Camp for Children at the 2025 Dzongsar Monlam, was a truly wonderful and enriching experience for all of us!

Held from 19th to 26th November 2025 at Shechen Monastery, the camp welcomed 30 children from Mexico, Australia, Bhutan, Singapore, Japan, India, Nepal, and Brazil.

Throughout the week, the children joyfully engaged in painting, drawing, playing, asking questions, aspiring, learning mudras, and practicing the children’s version of the Triratna Sadhana. It was a meaningful journey that invited these young hearts to gently explore what it means to walk in the footsteps of the Buddha.

This camp was offered in collaboration with Deer Park Institute, India, and Lhomon Education, Bhutan.
