*Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”*(V16)

*REFLECTION*
#*Jesus asked the disciples who the people say He is* (Matthew 16:13). They understood the crowds of followers to believe Jesus to be a powerful prophet, maybe even one returned from the dead, or John the Baptist. To contrast that view, Jesus asked the disciples who they say He is (Matthew 16:15).
answers on behalf of the group. Once more, this indicates he has become the *informal leader of the Twelve*(Matthew 10:1–4). Peter's answer is simple, straightforward, and emphasizes the center of Jesus' identity: *You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.*
often acting like a man "of little faith," according to Jesus (Matthew 14:31; 16:8), Peter has perceived and believed an essential truth about Jesus. The word Christ means "Messiah" or "Anointed One." Peter doesn't stop with recognizing that Jesus is the fulfilment of God's promises for a Savior, he also declares that Jesus is the Son of God, acknowledging that Jesus is, in fact, divine.
*proclamation of faith* by Peter was very important. Everyone should come to this place of recognising Jesus as the MESSIAH. When we also can say what Peter declared then this season of Lent becomes fruitful

Luke 11:29-32
The people of Nineveh will also stand up against this generation on judgment day and condemn it, for they repented of their sins at the preaching of Jonah. Now someone greater than Jonah is here—but you refuse to repent.(V32)

REFLECTION
people in the times of Prophet Jonah repented of their sins at the preaching of Jonah. On the first day of his journey, Jonah set out into the city and proclaimed, "Forty more days and Nineveh will be overturned!"(Jonah 3:4)
the message of Jonah people responded by REPENTING OF THEIR SINS. So the people of Nineveh believed God, and proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them even to the least of them…(Jon 3:5-10)
preached REPENTANCE (Mk 1:15) but the people did not respond and REPENT. Now someone greater than Jonah is here—but you refuse to repent.. A wicked generation is not only looks for signs but they also refuse to REPENT.
is the main focus during this season of LENT. Without REPENTANCE, lent is meaningless. Consider how far you have fallen! Repent and do the things you did at first. If you do not repent, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place.(Rev 2:5)

If you forgive those who sin against you, your heavenly Father will forgive you. But if you refuse to forgive others, your Father will not forgive your sins.(V14,15)

REFLECTION
truth can sometimes be difficult to digest. If you forgive those who sin against you, your heavenly Father will forgive you.. We see that this truth is conditional. But if you refuse to forgive others, your Father will not forgive your sins
Peter came to Jesus and asked, “Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother or sister who sins against me? Up to seven times?”(Matt 18:21). Yes we are called to FORGIVE UNCONDITIONALLY TO EXPERIENCE GOD'S UNCONDITIONAL FORGIVENESS. Jesus answered, “I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times.(Matt 18:22)
to practise UNCONDITIONAL FORGIVENESS? The gospel of Luke gives us the answer in 6:27,28 “But to you who are willing to listen, I say, love your enemies! Do good to those who hate you. Bless those who curse you. Pray for those who hurt you..
call this the RECONCILIATION LADDER. Reverse the Scripture. PRAY, BLESS, DO GOOD AND LOVE. Start by praying and blessing the other person and then move up the ladder.
