The Church continuously has called for the formation of the youth and to coordinate and empower the potentials of youth based on the Gospel values, to make them effective agents of change in the society. Sebastian’s Church, Mathikere is blessed with the presence of an a
ctive and diverse youth group – those born and brought up in Bangalore and those migrated from Kerala as students and employees. The parish first organized its youth in 1993 under the banner SABYO as a pious association with the motto “Arise and Shine”. It aims at making the youth committed to serving the mission of the Church. SABYO has been very active and vibrant in the parish with its diverse programs and enterprise. It offers the youth an unlimited platform to have an agile and active participation in the activities of the church. It is a place to fight against evils by being deep rooted in sanctity and morality, a place from where the moral voice which is the essence of hereditary faith and prayer is heard, a place where the agility and creativity of youth is upheld, a podium to youth, with youth, by youth, for the youth based on truth, peace, love, and justice derived from Christ to mould the youth as an impeccable human being. SABYO empowers youth by developing their potentials and making them effective agents of change, with the vision of establishing a just and a peaceful society. Its major activities, other than regular meetings on Sundays, are to conduct programs like one-day seminars, orientation programs, talks, cultural activities, lectures and visits to families, orphanages, old age homes, rehabilitation centers etc. It has nearly 40 members energetically involved in various activities of the association.
