The Conference of Catholic Bishops of India (CCBI) is a National Episcopal Body that enables the Latin Catholic Bishops of the India to exchange ideas and information, deliberate on the Church’s broad concerns and take care of the pastoral needs of the faithful. It is one of the four biggest Bishops’ Conferences of the world. It has 131 dioceses and 167 active and retired bishop members. The Confe

rence is to assist the bishops both for pastoral care and for evangelization: the twin duties of a bishop. One of the main purposes of CCBI according to its statutes is “to promote that greater good which the Church offers humankind especially through for a and programmes of the apostolate which are adequately adapted to the circumstances of time and space” (Statutes, art. 3:1).

Enrichment Training Programme on Ecumenism and Interfaith Dialogue

The Regional Commission for Ecumenism and Interfaith Dialogue, Bihar, in collaboration with the CCBI Commission, organized a three-day Enrichment Training Programme from 19–21 August 2026 at Navjyoti Niketan, Patna. Nearly 94 participants—college students, animators, priests, and religious—from the dioceses of Patna, Buxar, Muzaffarpur, Bettiah, Bhagalpur, and Purnia actively participated.

Western Regional Bible Commission Meeting (17–18 August 2026)
The Western Regional Bible Commission (WRBC) Meeting, held from 17–18 August 2026 at Jeevan Vikas Kendra, Pethapur, Gujarat, brought together around 11 diocesan Bible Commission secretaries and representatives from across the Western Region for prayer, reflection, sharing, and pastoral planning. Chaired by Most Rev. Simião P. Fernandes, Chairman Bishop of the WRBC, the meeting focused on the CCBI Pastoral Plan 2033 and strengthening biblical ministry across the region. Participants shared diocesan experiences and innovative initiatives, including the Vacation Bible School (VBS), and worked together to develop an action plan for biblical formation and evangelisation. The gathering also included a mission exposure visit to Kalol and Uteshweri, offering participants an opportunity to learn from the pastoral experiences and challenges of priests serving in mission areas. The meeting concluded with renewed commitment to strengthening biblical ministry and fostering greater collaboration across the Western Region.

CCBI Pastoral Plan Implementation Seminar for the Telugu Region
The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India (CCBI), through its Pastoral Plan Implementation Committee, organized a Seminar on the Implementation of the CCBI National Pastoral Plan for the Telugu Region on Wednesday, 19 August 2026, at the HASSS Office, S.D. Road, Secunderabad. The seminar was animated by Most Rev. Dr. Gerald Lobo, Chairman of the CCBI Pastoral Plan Implementation Committee and Bishop of Udupi. A total of 63 participants from the Telugu Region, including Diocesan Commission Coordinators and Regional Commission Secretaries, attended the programme.
The programme began with an inaugural session led by Fr. Raju Alex, who offered the opening prayer and lit the ceremonial lamp, as His Eminence Cardinal Poola Anthony was unable to attend due to unavoidable circumstances. The morning session focused on “From Mandate to Mission: The Church’s Call for the Pastoral Plan”, explaining the process and vision of the CCBI Pastoral Plan, with particular emphasis on Jesus’ Plan.

The Training and Orientation Programme for Sunday and School Catechism Teachers of Hunsur Deanery, held on 18 August 2026 at H.D. Kote, Diocese of Mysore, brought together 51 catechism teachers for a day of formation on Synodal Approaches in Catechetical Ministry. Animated by Fr. Vijay Machado, Executive Secretary of the CCBI Commission for Faith Formation, the programme explored the current faith realities of different generations, the foundations of catechetical ministry, synodal approaches, contemporary challenges, and dialogical methodology. Through interactive sessions and group workshops, participants reflected on their own teaching methods and learned practical tools to make catechesis more engaging and participatory. The training was widely appreciated as an “eye-opener”, inspiring the teachers to renew their approaches and continue growing as effective, synodal, and mission-oriented faith educators.

The National Service Team (NST) Updating Workshop and Meeting of the CCBI Commission for Basic Ecclesial Communities (BECs) was held on 17–18 August 2026 at Shanti Sadan, CCBI Secretariat Extension, Benaulim, Goa. The two-day gathering brought together NST members for prayer, reflection, sharing, and pastoral planning aimed at strengthening BECs and grassroots communities. The programme focused particularly on Basic Human Communities (BHCs), the theological and pastoral vision of BECs, and the implementation of the CCBI Pastoral Plan 2033. Through Gospel Sharing, group workshops, and discussions on medium-term pastoral activities, participants explored ways to strengthen family life, engage children and youth, and promote greater self-reliance. The meeting renewed the NST's commitment to building vibrant, participatory, and missionary communities rooted in communion, participation, and mission.
