Karthika pournami celebrations Sri Rajarajeshwari Devi Temple, Devarachikkanahalli, Bangalore

25/10/2024

Hasanamba.

This Friday have darshan of Hasanamba of Hasan city in Karnataka. Hasanamba means the Devi who is benevolent to bless her devotees with her gracious smile.

The temple is unusual in that it is open to the devotees only for a week every year. The rest of the time the Goddess is left with a lit lamp, flowers, water and two bags of Anna(rice) as offering until the next year. The nandaa deepa, (a ghee-lit lamp) burns all year round, for the entire duration when the temple doors are shut, with the ghee never depleting and the anna naivedya (the rice offering) offered to the devi at the time of closing the temple is warm and unspoiled when the doors are opened again, a year later.

According to a Legend, once when the seven Maatrukes (Brahmi, Maheshwari, Kaumari, Vaishnavi, Varahi, Indrani and Chamundi) came floating to the South of India, they were taken aback by the beauty of Hassan and decided to make it their home forever. Maheshwari, Kaumari, and Vaishnavi took residence in the three anthills inside the temple; Brahmi in Kenchamma Hosakote; while Indrani, Varahi and Chamundi chose the three wells in Devikere Honda.

The temple is now open for nine days up to Deepavali. After closing the doors puja will be performed to the closed doors up to next year.
