In Exodus 16, the people of Israel were walking through the wilderness and began complaining because they were hungry.
Even after God rescued them from Egypt, they struggled to trust that He would continue to provide for them.
But instead of abandoning them, God showed His mercy.
Every morning, He sent manna from heaven, bread-like food that appeared on the ground for the people to gather.
Day after day, God faithfully provided exactly what they needed.
God also commanded Moses to keep a jar of manna as a reminder for future generations (Hebrews 9:4).
That jar became a testimony of God's faithfulness in the wilderness.
But the manna was more than food.
It was a lesson.
God taught His people daily dependence.
They could not store up extra for many days because the manna would spoil.
They had to trust God again every morning.
This required faith, obedience, and dependence on the Lord.
Sometimes we also want God to show us the entire future at once.
We want complete security, complete control, and complete understanding.
But many times, God teaches us to trust Him one day at a time.
The wilderness was difficult,
but even there, God provided daily bread.
And the manna pointed to something greater.
In John 6, Jesus called Himself the true Bread from heaven.
The manna sustained physical life for a season, but Jesus gives eternal life.
Human hearts are hungry for more than food, success, comfort, or achievement.
Deep inside, we need God Himself.
Only Christ truly satisfies the soul.
Many people try to fill their emptiness with temporary things, but nothing in this world can fully sustain the heart apart from Jesus.
The jar of manna reminds us that God is faithful in every season, even in wilderness seasons.
And just as Israel gathered manna daily, we are also called to seek Christ daily, depend on Him daily, and trust Him daily.
God still provides. God still sustains.
And in Christ, we have the true Bread that never fails. 🙏🏻
