India is a vast country with over 2000 workers commended from different assemblies. It is almost impossible to keep track of every worker and get to know them in a personal way. Factors like the geographical situation, cultural backgrounds of different ethnic groups a, economical and educational inequality all can be sighted as valued reasons for it. This has made many committed workers to go unnoticed and deprived of much needed spiritual and financial fellowship. Operation Barnabas is concentrating on finding out these God’s servants and introducing them to the believers. For this we have taken much pain to go and visit them in their area of work and right in their dwelling places. Sometimes it takes climbing mountains that are as high as 3000 feet traveling through rugged roads fields and waters. But our labor was not in vain in the lord and had seen much good result. The workers are introduced through our magazine, “Insight India.” (Picture of mountain and Insight India)
Financial assistance:
Though we do not provide any regular finance assistance to the workers we do have programs to help them with special needs such as Medical, education of children and family support. We also started a Medical insurance scheme for commended worker’s family which provides a coverage of Rs. 200000 for a family in a period of one year. (Read about them later on).
Building worship places:
This great and vital need is seldom understood and considered by most believers in India. It is one part of the Lord’s work in India pushed aside as it involves a great amount of money. The Lord has enabled us to help in this area also.
We purchase and register property in the name of Operation Barnabas and construct buildings for assembly halls according to the availability of funds. More than fifty assembly halls have been fully or partially supported by Operation Barnabas in the past though all are not registered with us. We only started registering the property because of the new FCRA regulations effecting from May 2011.
Publishing literature:
Our fist publication was the magazine “Insight India” to introduce the new workers. Then we undertook the great task of publishing the “Prayer Handbook” which is a directory of all the workers in India. This has been a tremendous blessing and a turning point in the area of prayer and financial support to the workers. (picture of PH& Insight India)
We also felt the need of publishing good Bible study materials. The need for Hindi literature was our main priority. So we joined hands with “Project Ezra” team to do the translation of several books. Our publications include the Charles Ryrie’s “Study Bible” and also his “Basic Theology”, William MacDonald’s “One day At A Time” and his “Bible Commentary”, Lord’s Table and Lord’s Supper by Dr. George P. Koshy in English and three books written by Roy T. Daniel in Malayalam. We plan to continue this ministry and publish many more books in different languages. (Pictures of some books)
Humanitarian Help:
The Lord has enabled us to respond to some of the calamities the nation has faced. The Tsunami in 2006, Flood in Andhra in 2009, The Khandhamahal riot and killing of Christians in Orissa in the year of 2010. We are also involved in rural development and agricultural projects. (Pictures from all areas).
We are glad for what the Lord has pleased to accomplish through us. Except for this ministry many of the evangelists in India would have been still unknown to the believers. We do not take pride in any of the services we were able to render to the Lord’s children rather would humbly submit ourselves to the Lord for still better use. We would gladly take up any challenge and responsibility as and when the Lord laid it before us and we refuse to be restricted by any human interference. In fact most of these services were not in our plan but we were forced to take it up as and when the need arised.
