🔴 Arun Prasad, independent researcher on Bengaluru history and head of Discover Bengaluru, said that Richmond Town was named after Thomas Richmond, a barrister in the British Government.

Sometime in the last decade, Richmond Town was renamed Sir Mirza Ismail Nagar, after the former Dewan of Mysore State. “Mirza Ismail’s grandfather, Persian Businessman Aga Ali Asker, owned large tracts of land in Richmond Town and was also instrumental in designing its layout,” added Arun Prasad.

*Names of 6 Bengaluru Metro stations changed ahead of inauguration*

The names of the stations were changed due to popular demand from the residents. This will help them in identifying the stations with ease. The new name KR Puram is Krishnarajapura. Even in the government records the name of the area is Krishnarajapura,” an official with BMRCL said.

“We have always had a policy that the stations would be named after where they are built,” Anjum Parvez, managing director, BMRCL, told DH.

“It is a good thing that these changes were made before the inauguration and not after, as that might have been disastrous. I only wish local residents of these areas were involved in the process of deciding the station names much earlier,” said Srinivas Alavilli, a citizen activist.

The BMRCL has received a request from the residents of Mahadevapura and Kannada organisations to change the names of the stations since January this year 2023.

Alhamdulillah, Masjid-E-Askari & Shia Qabrastan Managing Committee @ Bangalore City, has been undertaking development works to upgrade the Shia Aramgah graveyard. The works involve; Rock Excavation & land levelling in the eastern part of the Aramgah to rehabilitate the land for new Graves. InshAllah, once completed, will provide sufficient space to fulfil the burial needs of the Shia community.

Shia Aramgah in Bangalore is more than just a cemetery, a resting place in a tranquil & spiritual environment. Visitors can benefit frm the facilities, including the provision of an ablution area, wadhu area, a sitting area shelter for both Men & women, an Azakhana-E-Bab-Ash Shifa (The Gate to Cure) with Zareeh-E-Mubarak of Imam Hussain (ع) & a praying area in the Azakhana. The Blessed Graveyard is also open for all visitors to pay their humble respect & conduct Majlises. We Request you to sincerely support the MEA’s Development works & projects.
