In 1 Samuel 16, God chooses David, the youngest son and least of his brothers, to be king. In 1 Samuel 17:1-37, David steps forward in faith against Goliath, convinced that the Lord who delivered him before would deliver him again. Belief trusts God’s strength over human might.

In John 15, Jesus calls His followers to abide in Him, for apart from Him they can do nothing. John 16:1-4 reminds them that opposition will come, yet those who remain in Him will bear fruit that lasts. Just like David, the disciples’ endurance would come from staying rooted in Christ.

Psalm 67 calls for God’s blessing to reach all nations so the world might know His saving power. When God works through His people, His glory is revealed, and others are drawn to Him.

Step forward in courage so that God’s name is honored.

In 1 Samuel 14:24-52 and 1 Samuel 15, Saul’s leadership falters again. His rash oath weakens his army, and his partial obedience in sparing what God commanded to destroy reveals a heart more concerned with appearances than submission. The lesson is clear: belief is not shown in words alone but in wholehearted obedience.

In John 14, Jesus promises His disciples the Spirit, the Helper who would guide them into truth and peace. Unlike Saul, who leaned on his own wisdom, the Spirit empowers believers to walk faithfully in God’s way.

Proverbs 12:28 and 13:1-9 echo this sentiment: righteousness leads to life, but rejecting instruction leads to ruin. God’s way is always the way of flourishing.

When we believe, we surrender to God’s will and trust the Spirit’s guidance.

In 1 Samuel 13, Saul disobeys God by offering a sacrifice himself, revealing impatience and unbelief. In 1 Samuel 14:1-23, Jonathan steps forward in faith, and God gives victory through a small act of courage. The contrast is striking—human pride falters, but believing in God brings deliverance.

In John 13:18-38, Jesus prepares His disciples for betrayal and denial. Even those closest to Him would stumble, yet His strength would carry them through. Like Jonathan, He shows that true victory does not come from numbers or power, but from walking in faithfulness to God’s plan.

Psalm 66:13-20 echoes this theme with thanksgiving for answered prayer, reminding us that God listens and delivers those who call on Him with sincerity.

Belief is tested in moments of pressure, but God’s strength is enough.

In 1 Samuel 10:9-27 and 11, Saul is confirmed as king and wins his first victory, but in 1 Samuel 12, Samuel reminds the people that their future depends not on a human ruler but on obedience to God. Trust in Him, not in earthly strength, would sustain them.

In John 12:37-50, many still resist Jesus despite His miracles, revealing hearts hardened against God’s Word. Yet in John 13:1-17, Jesus shows the fullness of that word by washing His disciples’ feet.

Psalm 66:1-12 celebrates God’s mighty acts and His refining work in His people. Just as Israel was called back to faithfulness, and the disciples were taught to follow in service, God still shapes His people through His Word and Spirit.

Our belief in God is revealed in how we receive His words and live them out in obedience and humility.

In 1 Samuel 8-10:1-8, Israel demands a king to be like the nations around them. Though God allows Saul to be anointed, Samuel warns that their request reveals misplaced trust. Human power may seem appealing, but it cannot replace God’s reign.

In John 12:12-36, the crowds welcome Jesus as king, yet He enters Jerusalem not with force but in humility, pointing to a kingdom built through His death. Where Israel longed for a ruler in their image, Christ shows that true life is found in surrender to God’s rule.

Psalm 65 celebrates the God who crowns the year with abundance and answers prayer with power. His reign brings fruitfulness and hope, far greater than any earthly king could provide.

All in all, belief means looking beyond human authority to God’s kingdom.

In 1 Samuel 5 through 7, the ark of God is captured by the Philistines, but His power brings their idols down and their people to judgment. When the ark is restored, Samuel calls Israel back to repentance, and God grants victory. His glory cannot be diminished, even by human failure.

In John 11:45-57, leaders plot against Jesus, while in John 12:1-11, Mary anoints Him in worship. Like the ark revealing God’s power, Christ reveals God’s presence, and belief is shown in whether hearts resist or bow in devotion.

Proverbs 12:18-28 contrasts words that wound with truth that brings life, pointing us to the wisdom of walking in God’s ways.

These passages remind us that God’s glory always prevails, and true belief responds with repentance, worship, and trust.

In 1 Samuel 2:27-36, God rebukes Eli’s house for unfaithfulness, and in chapter 3, He calls Samuel, raising up a prophet who will deliver His word. By chapter 4, Israel suffers defeat and the ark is captured, showing the cost of ignoring God’s voice. Life and strength are found in listening to the Lord.

In John 11:1-44, Jesus speaks into another moment of despair: the death of Lazarus. He declares Himself the resurrection and the life, and then proves it by calling His friend from the tomb. Where Israel fell in silence and loss, Jesus shows that believing His words brings life out of death.

Psalm 64 adds the perspective of trust amid opposition, declaring that God will turn back the schemes of the wicked and protect His people.

The God who speaks also gives life.

In 1 Samuel 1, Hannah pours out her grief to God, trusting Him with the burden of her barrenness. The Lord answers her prayer with the birth of Samuel, and in 1 Samuel 2:1-26, her song celebrates His holiness, power, and mercy. Her story shows that belief holds fast even in waiting, knowing God hears.

In John 10:22-42, Jesus is confronted by leaders who question His identity. While some resist in unbelief, others recognize His works as the Father’s testimony. Like Hannah’s story, we see that Jesus’s life and miracles reveal that He is the One sent by God.

Psalm 63 echoes these truths with a cry of longing. Belief is not only about asking for God’s help but also delighting in His presence as our greatest need.

God hears, responds, and satisfies those who trust Him.
