Did you know there’s a temple in Tamil Nadu where the sacred Lalitha Sahasranama was first revealed to the world?
When Bhandasura the demon challenged the devas, Goddess Lalithambigai emerged from the fire — radiant, serene, and unstoppable.
After a fierce battle and defeating the demon, her divine energy was so intense that Lord Shiva guided her to earth as Manonmani. Here, she created the Vak Devathas and taught them to chant her thousand names — the Lalitha Sahasranama.
Later, this sacred hymn was passed down by Lord Hayagriva, an incarnation of Vishnu, to Sage Agastya — as recorded in the Brahmanda Purana.
The goddess here sits in Sukhasana posture, adorned with anklets — a rare depiction in South Indian temples.
This is the eternal seat of Sri Chakra worship, one of the 276 Paadal Petra Sthalams dedicated to Lord Shiva — a place where divinity itself took form.
