ಅಧ್ಯಾಯ 1, ಶ್ಲೋಕ 22

ಅರ್ಜುನನು ಹೇಳುತ್ತಾನೆ:
“ಈ ಯುದ್ಧಭೂಮಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಯುದ್ಧಕ್ಕೆ ಸಜ್ಜಾಗಿ ನಿಂತಿರುವ ಯೋಧರನ್ನು ನಾನು ಗಮನದಿಂದ ನೋಡಬೇಕು.
ಈ ಮಹಾಯುದ್ಧದಲ್ಲಿ ನಾನು ಯಾರೊಂದಿಗೆ ಯುದ್ಧ ಮಾಡಬೇಕೆಂಬುದನ್ನು ತಿಳಿದುಕೊಳ್ಳಲು ಬಯಸುತ್ತೇನೆ.”

ಈ ಮಾತುಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಅರ್ಜುನನ ಯುದ್ಧಸಿದ್ಧತೆ ಮಾತ್ರವಲ್ಲ, ಅವನ ಮನಸ್ಸಿನ ಚಿಂತನೆಗಳ ಆರಂಭವೂ ವ್ಯಕ್ತವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ.

ಯುದ್ಧಕ್ಕೆ ಸಜ್ಜಾಗಿ ನಿಂತಿರುವ ಧೃತರಾಷ್ಟ್ರರ ಸಂಬಂಧಿಕರನ್ನು ಕಂಡ ಅರ್ಜುನನು,
ಶಸ್ತ್ರಪ್ರಹಾರ ಆರಂಭವಾಗುವ ಸಮಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಧನುಸ್ಸನ್ನು ಎತ್ತಿ ಹಿಡಿದು,
ಶ್ರೀಕೃಷ್ಣನಿಗೆ ಹೇಳುತ್ತಾನೆ:
“ಅಚ್ಯುತನೇ, ನನ್ನ ರಥವನ್ನು ಎರಡೂ ಸೇನೆಗಳ ಮಧ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ನಿಲ್ಲಿಸು.”

ಇದು ಗೀತೆಯ ಕಥಾನಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಮಹತ್ವದ ತಿರುವು.
ಯುದ್ಧ ಆರಂಭಿಸುವ ಮುನ್ನ ಅರ್ಜುನನು ಎದುರಾಳಿಗಳನ್ನು ಸಮೀಪದಿಂದ ನೋಡುವ ಬಯಕೆಯನ್ನು ವ್ಯಕ್ತಪಡಿಸುತ್ತಾನೆ.
