110. Om Kundalinyai nama:

Salutations to the Divine Mother who is the kundalini shakthi sleeping as a coiled female snake in the Mooladhara chakra .The Kundalini Shakthi or Kundali sleeps within the Mooladhara Chakra as a three and a half coiled sleeping serpent , wound around the Swayambhu Shiva. Kundali means coiled and Devi Kundalini is the cosmic power sleeping within individual bodies.Out of the 72,000 nadis, the major one’s are the Ida on the left, Pingala on the right and the central Sushumna which extends from the Mooladhara to Brahmarandhra. All the six chakras are located on the Sushumna. The Sushumna is described as the region of the moon, sun and fire in three segments. The area around Mooladhara and Swadhishtana is the region of fire, the area around Manipuraka and Anahatha is the region of sun, and the area on and above Ajna is occupied by the moon.Psychic knots in the subtle body namely Brahma Grandhi (in the region of Mooladhara /between Mooladhara and Swadhishtana), Vishnu Grandhi ( between Manipura and Anahatha/ in the region of Anahatha ), and Rudra Granthi ( in the region of Ajna chakra) are located along these regions of fire , sun and the moon. These knots prevent the ascend of Kundalini along the Sushumna. Within the fiery red tamasik Suṣhumna is the lustrous rajasik Vajra or Vajriṇi nadi and within the latter the pale nectar- dropping Sattvik Chitra or Chitriṇi. The innermost one is called the Brahma Nadi. The first is said to be firelike (Vahni-svarupa), the second sun-like (Surya-svarupa), and the third moon-like (Chandra- svarupa). These are the threefold aspect of the Shabdabrahman. The opening at the end of the Chitrini Nadi is called the door of Brahman (Brahma-dvara). Devi Kundalini stays closing the mouth of Brahma dvara by Her own. This path is the Kula Marga through which the Devi Kundali enters to ascend.
The sun and the moon constantly travels through the Ida- Pingala. The rays of the sun, falls on the chandramandala and induces the flow of amrit from the chandramandala , which washes the six chakras and which is drunk by the Kundalini and thereby She sleeps contented. As long as Kundalini sleeps in the Mooladhara, man will be engrossed and captivated by Devi’s maya.If the route of the sun and the moon are obstructed then nectar or amrit will not be secreted from the Chandramandala . Consequently, the Kundalini Shakthi is aroused and She straightens Herself and shoots across the Sushumna, breaking the knots and piercing the chakras.During the time of the ascent of Kundalini, the sadhaka comes across several divine experiences and the world of jnana opens before him. “The experience of Kundalini arousal should be experienced and cannot be explained in words” – Swamiji used to say.Devi Kundalini reaches the Sahasrara and unites with Paramashiva. At this moment there is the copious secretion of nectar from the chandramandala which bathes the entire nervous system of the sadhaka. This is Niirvikalpasamadhi and the oneness with the absolute Brahmam .

Significance of Navarathri

Navarathri is one of the most important Hindu festivals also known as Ashwin Navarathri or Sharad Navarathri. It falls in the post monsoon autumn season, on the Ashwin shukla pradhama and ends on Ashwin shukla navami. Ashwin is the seventh month of the lunisolar Hindu calendar ( Shaka samvat or Shaka era).Navarathri overlaps the months of September and October as per the Gregorian calender.Navarathri means nine nights.During this period Adiparashakthi or the Goddess Shri Lalithambika is worshipped in Her different forms. The Divine Mother is worshipped during the first three days as Goddess Durga, next three days as Goddess Lekshmi and last three days as Goddess Saraswathi.

The holy text Devi Mahatmyam found in Markhandeya Purana glorifies the divinity of Devi and Her war with the evil asura, Mahishasura over a period of nine days and Her victory by assassinating the asura on the tenth day.The cruel Buffalo demon and his army is a personification of ignorance and evil, and his destruction
symbolizes the victory of good over evil.Mahadurga is depicted as seated on a lion/ tiger. These animals symbolizes the inner enemies of man such as k**a, krodha, lobha, moha, mada and matsarya.Devi's posture as seated on top of the lion explains that the Divine Mother can destroy these bad qualities and purify one's mind . Devi is untouched and beyond these negative characteristics.

In eastern India nine forms of the Divine Mother Durga are worshipped as "Navadurga" during these nine days. These nine forms are - Shailaputri, Brahmacharini, Chandraghanta, Kushmandha, Skandamatha, Karthyayani, Kaalarathri, Maha Gauri, Siddhidathri. The number nine is significant as there are Navagrahas( nine planets), Navadwaras ( nine openings) etc.The number nine signifies compassion, wisdom, charity, generosity, love, selflessness, and Universal Consciousness. These are all features of the divine.

In Kerala the last three days of Navarathri is highly significant as Devi is worshipped as Goddess Saraswathi. On the day of Ashtami, at dusk , books, tools and musical instruments, anything pertaining to ones profession or academics is kept for Ayudha Puja at homes, temples and ashrams. The nineth day is for worshipping Goddess Saraswathi .On Vijayadashami books and tools are taken out after puja. This is the auspicious day called Vidyarambham when children between the age of 2- 6 years are initiated into studies.

In Tamilnadu the first three days of Navarathri is dedicated to Goddess Durga, the next three days to Goddess Lekshmi and the last three days to Goddess Saraswathi.Traditional dolls of Gods, Goddesses, humans, animals, toys etc. are arranged and decorated beautifully on makeshift steps called kolu or Golu and they represent mythology, environment, space, and so on.The number of steps can be three, five, seven or nine.Kolu is kept on the first day and dismantled on the tenth day.Nine different types of Naivedyams are submitted to Devi on these nine days . Young girls and ladies with mangalyam are honoured by giving thamboolam.Ladies and children worship the Divine Mother by chanting her names and singing hymns, bhajans and kirthans in praise of Her.

In Andhra Devi is worshipped as Mahagauri during Navarathri. In Karnataka Navarathri is celebrated as Dasara.

There are three qualities or gunas inherent in all creation. These qualities are known as the Trigunas which are Sattva guna, Tamo guna and Rajoguna.Goddess Durga represent Tamo guna ( ignorance, laziness, wickedness) and she destroys these qualities in man.Durga also represents Icchashakthi ( will power and the desire to perform action).Goddess Lekshmi signifies Rajo guna . Rajo guna is karma,or action and Devi signifies Kriyashakthi.Kriyashakthi sets the world active , and is the cause of creation. She is also the Goddess of fortune and wealth.Goddess Saraswathi is the Goddess of all knowledge and wisdom and she leads one towards knowledge , and eternal peace.Hence She is Jnanashakthi.Jnanashakthi can be vijnanam or prajnanam. It is the ultimate path to salvation. The universe is created out of these three powers- Icchashakthi, Kriyashakthi and Jnanashakthi, hence the Divine Mother is praised as Trayambika- the three Ambikas. So worship of these three forms of the Divine Mother explains the evolution of the mind of man from laziness and ignorance, through action towards knowledge and ultimately to liberation. So worship of the Divine Mother during Navarathri conveys the message to evolve spiritually in this valuable human birth and not to waste your precious life behind sensual pleasures.

The nine forms of Durga also represent spiritual advancement in the life of man.As per our scriptures there are four stages to be followed such as Brahmacharyam, Grihasthashramam, Vanaprashtham and Sanyasam. Goddesses Shailaputri and Brahmacharini represent Balyam and kaumaram( Birth, childhood and teenage). Goddesses Chandraghanta , Kushmandha and Skandamatha, signifies Grihasthashrama, the married life or the life of a house holder, such as marriage, married life and birth of children which follows after Brahmacharyashrama. He also has to follow the Panchamaha yajnas during this period.

Next stage is Vanaprastha.Once the children are grown up and settled the duty of a house holder and his consort are to purify their minds, slowly break the material attachments and lead a life of purity and penance. This stage is represented by Devi Karthyayani and Kaalarathri.

Mahagauri symbolizes the fourth stage or Sanyasa. At this stage the bonds of material attachments should be completely broken and
contemplation of the Lord is necessary.spiritual upliftment is inevitable here. Finally Goddess Siddhidatri represents moksha or salvation which is the ultimate goal to be pursued by a human.
Thus worship of the Mother Divine during Navarathri is highly significant and bestows one with all prosperity, fortune and ultimate liberation.

109.Om Mahashakthyai nama :

Salutations to the Divine Mother who is the greatest shakthi . Devi is the power of Brahmam or Parama Shiva. Without her Shiva is completely latent unable to perform any actions on His own. . The entire actions of creation, sustenance and dissolution is carried out by Shri Lalithambika, Lord Kamaeshwara’s Supreme Power. But remember Devi and Shiva are one, they are not separate entities.
The Divine Mother is the power of the universe. Devi is the creatrix of the world which is created out of Her three powers such as Iccha Shakthi, Jnana Shakthi and Kriya Shakthi ; the powers of will, knowledge and action.Devis power pervades the universe and each and every minute and subtle particle present. Without Her power the universe will become Jada or dead. The prana which gives life to us is Her power, the energy which encompasses the universe is Her power. In short the life is sustained by Her will and power. Brahmam the Supreme Ishwara, Trimurthis, Devas they all are latent and static without Shakthi, the Supreme power of the universe. Hence Devi is the Maha shakthi the highest power who sleeps within the Mooladhara as Devi Kundalini Shakthi.

Salutations to the Divine Mother who resides on top of the six chakras.
( Ref : mantra 99-106 )Sahasrara being the seventh one. This nama refers to the ascent of Kundalini through the Sushumna, piercing the six chakras and breaking the three knots, and on reaching Maha Kailasa which is the Sahasrara Padma unites with Her Lord, Parama Shiva. Here Devi is seated on top of all the six chakras, thus praised as Shatchakropari Samsthitha.

107. Om Tatillatha samaruchyai nama:

Salutations to the Divine Mother whose beauty is similar to a streak of lightning.

This nama signifies the beauty of the Kundalini Shakthi who is dazzling like a thousand lightning flashes. She is slender with enormous power who breaks the knots of maya and who can take Her sadhaka to Supreme levels of consciousness.Kundalini is the sleeping power / shakthi of the jivatma ( Pindadham or the microcosm), whereas Tripurasundari is the Shakthi of Shiva, the Jiva, Purusha or the Cosmic Consciousness ( Brahmandham or the macrocosm). Thus the Divine Mother pervades everywhere, as individual shakthi and the universal shakthi.

106.Om Sudhasaarabhi varshinyai nama:

Salutations to the Divine Mother who makes the nectar flow in all our nerves from sahasrara or one who showers us with amruth.
The kundalini shakthi reaches the Sahasrara ( for details please refer previous mantras) , after breaking the three notes and unites with Parama Shiva. This union or Shiva- Shakthi yoga results in the copious flow of nectar from the Chandra mandala, which washes and cools the entire nervous system of the sadhaka,The nectar flows from Sahasrara through Ajna, Vishuddhi, Anahatha and reaches the Mooladhara which is the receptacle of this nectar . This is Nirvikalpa Samadhi where the individual soul merges with the Supreme Universal Consciousness. The entire world made up of mind and matter is dissolved during this state.Nothing exists, and the feeling of ‘I’ disappears.

Jivatma-Paramatma yoga is very difficult to attain except by severe penance, ardent devotion at the Holy feet of the Divine Mother and pure and holy karmas.

105.Om Sahasrarambujaarudhayai nama:

Salutations to the Divine Mother who has climbed Sahasrara, the point of ultimate realization.

Sahasrara chakra is the seventh primary chakra and the most subtle. It is located above the crown of the head. Sahasrara means thousand petalled. The petals are multicoloured arranged in 20 layers of 50 petals each. The pericarp is golden within it is a circular moon region .In the centre of the moon region is a luminous triangle which is downward pointing.
Sahasrara chakra is the upper terminal point of Sushumna nadi, the central channel. From Sahasrara the nectar of immortality (Amrita) flows in a constant stream at the time of union of Shiva – Shakthi.

Sahasrara chakra is the seat of the Parabindu (Supreme bindu) and here the union of Kundalini Shakti and Shiva occurs .Supreme Bindu is Sakala Shiva, Parameshwara or Shambhu. When the Kundalini Shakthi reaches the Sahasrara padmam, the yogi experiences Nirvikalpa Samadhi or Asamprajnata samadhi - the union of the individual soul with the Universal Soul and he attains liberation.

Sahasrara Chakra is located above Brahma-randhra, "the cave of Brahma". It is a hole in the crown of the head through which the prana is said to escape at death.Once the Kundalini Shakti, also called "Serpent Power", has ascended through Sushumna to Sahasrara, She reverses Her course and returns to rest in the base center again , the Mooladhara.
Other names of Sahasrara chakra.

Ta**ra: Adhomukha Mahapadma, Amlana Padma, Dashashatadala Padma, Pankaja, Sahasrabja, Sahasrachchada Pankaja, Sahasradala, Sahasradala Adhomukha Padma, Sahasradala Padma, Sahasrapatra, Sahasrara, Sahasrara Ambuja, Sahasrara Mahapadma, Sahasrara Padma, Sahasrara Saroruha, Shiras Padma, Shuddha Padma, Wyoma, Wyomambhoja.
In the Vedas and late Upanishads: Akasha Chakra, Kapalasamputa, Sahasradala, Sahasrara, Sahasrara Kamala (Pankaja or Padma), Sthana, Wyoma, Wyomambuja.

19/11/2020

104.Om Rudragrandhivibhedinyai nama:

Salutations to the Divine Mother who breaks the ties of Rudragrandhi.

Rudragrandhi is the third knot ( Ref.mantra ,100).It covers the area between Ajna and Sahasrara chakras . It is also known as forehead knot.

"When the Rudra granthi is pierced, and the air enters the seat of the Lord (the space between the eyebrows), then the perfect sound like that of a flute is produced." Hatha Yoga Pradipika. 4.75

When this tie is broken the ego awareness, the "I" awareness, the mental awareness, the physical awareness disappears & arousal of the sixth sense or the eye of intuition takes place.
When this grandhi is broken by the ascending Kundalini Shakthi ,the saadhaka becomes aware of the past, present and the future and the merger of individual soul and cosmic soul happens.
