అనంతపురం పీపుల్స్ లైబ్రరీ పునఃప్రారంభం అవ్వటానికి సన్నద్ధం అవుతోంది. ఏడు సంవత్సరాల క్రితం లైబ్రరీని మొదలు పెట్టినప్పుడు అది ఏ విధంగా, ఎలాంటి దిశలో నడుస్తుందో ముందే ఒక అంచనా వేయలేదు. ఇదేదో చేస్తే బాగుంటుంది, అనే ఆశావాదంతో మొదలయ్యింది. అప్పటిదాకా సేకరించిన పుస్తకాలన్నీ కూడేసి, విభజించి, అరల్లో అమర్చి, లైబ్రరీ తలుపులు తెరిచాం. దాని తర్వాత లైబ్రరీ తన అస్థిత్వాన్ని తానే ఎప్పటికప్పుడు నిర్వచించుకుంటూ నడిచింది.

భగత్ సింగ్ స్టడీ సర్కిల్ అనే పేరుతొ ముందుకొచ్చిన యువకులతో అనంతపురంలోని రకరకాల కళాశాలల్లో, యూనివర్సిటీల్లో చదువుకునే విద్యార్థులు కళ, సాహిత్య, సాంస్కృతిక, రాజకీయ, చారిత్రక అంశాల గురించి చర్చించటానికి నిలయం అయ్యింది. ఒకట్రెండు సార్లు షార్ట్ ఫిల్మ్ లకు సెట్టింగ్గా పనికొచ్చింది. ఇంకొన్ని సార్లు పుస్తకాలమీద ప్రేమ ఉన్న వాళ్ళు లైబ్రరీని వెతుక్కుంటూ వచ్చారు.

తరువాత కోవిడ్ దెబ్బకు లైబ్రరీ కార్యక్రమాలు ఒక మూడు సంవత్సరాలు ఇంచుమించు ఆగిపోయాయి. ఈ కాలంలో మాటలు పూడ్చలేని విషాదం.

ఇప్పుడు లైబ్రరీని పునఃప్రారంభించాలని కొత్తగా చేరిన పుస్తకాలు, పాత పుస్తకాలు అన్నిటిని మళ్ళి జాగ్రత్తగా అమర్చి తలుపులు తెరవటానికి సిద్ధం చేస్తున్నాము. మే మొదటి వారానికల్లా లైబ్రరీ పని ఒక కొలిక్కి వచ్చే అవకాశం ఉంది.

Our library is 6 years old with yesterday. It is interesting how library redefined itself in this period - from being used as a setting for a scene in a short-film to hosting kids who wanted to escape their evening tuitions - and its evolution had never been predictable. People’s Library hosted the gatherings of Bhagat Singh Study Circle - that went on for about 2 years - where a bunch of students from various colleges of Anantapur gathered to discuss ideas and politics. We invited some stalwart writers, intellectuals and activists to interact with students in this process and a meagre group of about 10 students in the beginning grew to around 100 students by the time of the last session a month prior to Covid lock down. Library was also a meeting space for various activities we conducted in this period like - ‘Free Tea’ campaign on opening a dialogue about constitution and politics, interactions with students of various colleges etc. And of course, Library also served as a library : so many people found their way to the library to check out and borrow books. Looking back and thinking about the day we started library, it feels like yesterday and there’s so much more to do.
