Polian Purohitan is a remote hill forest wilderness settlement village of Brahmin Purohits settled since 12 th century AD with later migration of other service providers and working communities totaling at present of about 995 population under local administration of Una District at 580 mt above sea level.It is a transit village connected by hill roads to numerous villages and nearby towns. glected area has non commercial forest trees and wild fauna like leopards and wild pigs. Local farming is sparse in patches of hilly terrain except the Khair tree for extracting Kattha (Katecheu)
The Rajpurohits who had migrated during the 12 century from the Khasi region in Assam during the historical turmoils and invasions on the numerous dynasties in region and escaped via the Tibetian route to Kashmir and later migrated to the lower Himalayan no man's region unknown to the outer world .The Purohits were patronised by the local kings for royal religious functions and advice. The 'pindi' metamorphosed incarnation of Kamakhyadevi was santicfied on a nearby hill by the Rajpurohits : the second temple in india after the popular temple in Assam , except a few other manifestations of Kamakhya as Taradevi, a ta***ic goddess in Jhansi and other cities. The temple half kilometer precints has developed in the recent times by contributions of the local and distant devotees. The nine day navaratri festival is celebrated each year with thousands of devotees congregating in community feasts and rituals.The temple has several rooms available for guests and devotee on request.
