Mahavishnu: The Divine Protector

Mahavishnu, the second deity in the Trinity (Trimoorty), oversees the conservation of the universe. Central to Vaishnavism, he is often depicted resting on the great serpent Ananta in the Milky Ocean. Vaishnavism revolves around devotion to Mahavishnu, similar to how Shaivism focuses on Shiva. The Bhakti movement flourished with Mahavishnu at its core, and texts like the Bhagavatha Maha Purana and the Bhagavad Gita highlight his significance, especially through his incarnation as Krishna.

In Chowara Devi Temple, Mahavishnu is enshrined with his consorts Sreedevi and Bhudevi, both manifestations of Lakshmi. Bhudevi represents the material world and fertility, while Sreedevi embodies spiritual grace and auspiciousness.
