Next Moshe and the cohanim, who are L’vi’im, spoke to all Yisra’EL. They said:
“Be quiet; and listen, Yisra’EL! Today you have become The People of YHVH your ELohim. Therefore you are to listen to what YHVH your ELohim says and obey His mitzvot and laws, which I am giving you today.”
“Sh’ma, Yisra’EL! YHVH Eloheinu, YHVH echad (Hear, Isra’EL! YAH our ELohim, YAH is one); and you are to love YHVH your ELohim with all your heart, all your being and all your resources. These words, which I am ordering you today, are to be on your heart; and you are to teach them carefully to your children. You are to talk about them when you sit at home, when you are traveling on the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them on your hand as a sign, put them at the front of a headband around your forehead, and write them on the door-frames of your house and on your gates.
haven’t you read in the scroll of Moshe, in the passage about the bush, how ELohim said to him:
‘I am the ELohim of Avraham, the ELohim of Yitz’chak and the ELohim of Ya‘akov’?
He is ELohim not of the dead, but of the living! You are going far astray!”
One of the Torah-teachers came up and heard them engaged in this discussion. Seeing that Yeshua answered them well, he asked him:
“Which is the most important mitzvah of them all?”
answered:
“The most important is:
‘Sh’ma Yisra’EL, YHVH ELoheinu, YHVH echad (Hear, O Isra’EL, YHVH our ELohim, YHVH is one), and you are to love YHVH your ELohim with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your understanding and with all your strength.’
The second is this:
‘You are to love your neighbor as yourself.’
There is no other mitzvah greater than these.”
