Christ has Risen!
“This is the meaning of the words by St. Paul, “Christ was raised for our justification”: He turns my eyes away from my sins and directs them to Christ, for if I look at my sins, they will destroy me. Therefore I must look unto Christ who has taken my sins upon himself, crushed the head of the serpent and become the blessing. Now they no longer burden my conscience, but rest upon Christ, whom they desire to destroy. Let us see how they treat him. They hurl him to the ground and kill him. O God; where is now my Christ and my Saviour? But then God appears, delivers Christ and makes him alive; and not only does he make him alive, but lets him rule over all. What has now become of sin? Today is Good Friday.
The day that God died in Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to it.
Since Jesus Christ is not only the Son of David according to the flesh, but also Very God, His death has an infinite worth for us, the ungodly.

“Dr. Luther says also in his book Of the Councils and the Church: ‘We Christians must know that if God is not also in the balance, and gives the weight, we sink to the bottom with our scale. By this I mean: If it were not to be said if these things were not true, God has died for us, but only a man, we would be lost. But if "God's death" and "God died" lie in the scale of the balance, then He sinks down, and we rise up as a light, empty scale. But indeed He can also rise again or leap out of the scale; yet He could not sit in the scale unless He became a man like us, so that it could be said: "God died," "God's passion," "God's blood," "God's death." For in His nature God cannot die; but now that God and man are united in one person, it is correctly called God's death, when the man dies who is one thing or one person with God.’”

The same One who is to come in glory to judge the world on the day of wrath, offers us today the same very Body and Blood he had once given up on the cross, to still that wrath. Eat and drink of Him today in these lowly forms, given for your salvation, and hide yourself in Him while He reveals Himself in them before the Day of judgment.

Contemporary Christians can glean valuable lessons from Martin Chemnitz and the other architects of the Formula of Concord. They effectively demonstrate the principles guiding the healing of Christian divisions and establishing the bedrock upon which Christian unity should stand.
In contrast to the prevailing ecumenical approach among today’s Christians, who often attempt to address theological differences by shrouding them in ambiguity and unclear definitions, allowing for divergent interpretations, the Formula takes a different path. It confronts these issues meticulously, uncovering the underlying divisions, touching the wounds, and only then fostering authentic Christian harmony that unifies the church in the doctrine of the Gospel in all its articles. At the same time, this is achieved with a careful touch that sidesteps the pitfalls of personal dissension and bitterness.
Praise be to God for His faithfulness to his beloved Church!

Happy Thanksgiving!
“Concerning the righteousness of faith before God we believe, teach, and confess unanimously, in accordance with the comprehensive summary of our faith and confession presented above, that poor sinful man is justified before God, that is, absolved and declared free and exempt from all his sins, and from the sentence of well-deserved condemnation, and adopted into sonship and heirship of eternal life, without any merit or worth of our own, also without any preceding, present, or any subsequent works, out of pure grace, because of the sole merit, complete obedience, bitter suffering, death, and resurrection of our Lord Christ alone, whose obedience is reckoned to us for righteousness.These treasures are offered us by the Holy Ghost in the promise of the holy Gospel; and faith alone is the only means by which we lay hold upon, accept, and apply, and appropriate them to ourselves. This faith is a gift of God, by which we truly learn to know Christ, our Redeemer, in the Word of the Gospel, and trust in Him, that for the sake of His obedience alone we have the forgiveness of sins by grace, are regarded as godly and righteous by God the father, and are eternally saved.”
