WHAT IS THE WORLD ALLIANCE OF QARA’IM?

The World Alliance of Qara’im (WAQ) is an international organization of independent Karaites established in 2010, committed to steadfastly upholding the principles of Karaism. Unlike other Karaite groups which have, sadly, given themselves over to compromise with the Rabbanites (Rabbis), or engaged in a policy of pandering to the Christians, the WAQ has never – and will never – concede any of the basic tenets of Karaism. These include an unwavering adherence to the straightforward (but not literal!) meaning of the Torah; the rejection of false philosophies such as Pharisaic / Rabbinical Judaism, Christianity / Messianic Judaism, and Western subjective morality; and the belief that, while Hakhamim can be facilitators in helping others understand the Torah, they are not to play the role of dictator or “Pope”. Rather, it is a basic belief of the Karaite movement that each person should “search well in the scriptures and not rely on another’s opinion.” With that in mind, we offer free Karaite / Torah education and activities to all those who are interested.

Biblical Calendar Society (BCS) - New Moon Report - Saturday 12 September 2026 - Seventh Biblical Month and Yom Teruah

➠ The new moon WAS NOT SIGHTED in Israel with the naked eye by any of our observers on the evening of Saturday 12 September 2026.

➠ Therefore, by default, the Seventh Biblical Month will begin at sunset on Sunday 13 September 2026.

➠ This is because tonight marks the 29th day since the previous new moon, and it is not astronomically possible for two consecutive new moons to be greater than 30 days apart.

➠ Since the holiday of Yom Teruah commences with the beginning of the Seventh Month (Leviticus 23:24), Yom Teruah will also begin on Sunday 13 September 2026, at sunset, and will end the following evening, Monday 14 September 2026, at nightfall.

➠ Though the moon was not sighted tonight, we encourage all observers to go out and search for the new moon tomorrow evening, Sunday 13 September 2026, between 6:48 PM and 7:53 PM, so that we may have documented proof that it was visibly sighted this month.

➠ If you do observe the crescent new moon tomorrow evening, please fill out the New Moon Sighting Report at the link below:

➠ A quick note about how we determine the declaration of the new moon. We at the Biblical Calendar Society believe that, for very difficult and borderline new moon observations like the one tonight, positive observation by one or two expert observers is not enough to declare the new month; rather, the crescent should be visible, with the naked eye, to the average observer in Israel, since the new moon is a sign for all of Israel. Therefore, even if it were to emerge that there were one or two expert observers from specific vantage points within Israel who did observe the moon tonight, we still would not have declared it as the beginning of the month, for the reason stated above. It should be noted that for tonight’s observation, we had a clear view of the Western horizon, with little cloud cover, and even though we have years of experience in observing the moon, we did not see the crescent.

Part 2: Karaite Disproves Rabbinical Claim of Matrilineal Descent

Continuing the series on Patrilineal Descent in the Torah, Hakham Melech Rahmiel Ben Ya’aqov of the World Alliance of Qara'im debunks the Rabbis' claim of Matrilineal Descent by closely examining Ezra 10:3, one of the two verses (along with Deuteronomy 7:3) that the Rabbis cite in their attempt to prove that one's Israelite ("Jewish") identity is derived from the mother rather than the father. In fact, matrilineal descent comes from the Romans and not from the Torah at all.

Biblical Calendar Society (BCS) - New Moon Sighting Event - Saturday 12 September 2026 - Seventh Biblical Month

Shalom New Moon Enthusiasts,

➠ The new moon of the SEVENTH Biblical Month MIGHT BE VISIBLE from Israel (assuming no cloud cover) on the evening of Saturday 12 September 2026, between Sunset at 6:48 PM and Moonset at 7:23 PM.

This is a difficult sighting, so we need all of our best and most enthusiastic new moon observers out that evening!

➠ If the moon is not seen on the evening of Saturday 12 September 2026, then it should be EASILY VISIBLE THE FOLLOWING EVENING, Sunday 13 September 2026, between 6:48 PM and 7:53 PM.

➠ Since the upcoming new moon begins the Seventh Month, its sighting ushers in the holiday of Yom Teruah (The Day of Noisemaking), which is to be celebrated on the First Day of the Seventh month (see Leviticus 23:23).

➠ Please note that Rabbinical Jews will be celebrating Yom Teruah (which they have incorrectly rebranded as “Rosh HaShanah”) for two days, beginning at sunset on Friday 11 September 2026 (one or two full days before the moon is even visible in the sky), and ending at nightfall on Sunday 13 September 2026.

➠ Once the date of the new moon of the Seventh Month has been confirmed by observation, the Biblical Calendar Society will publish an online calendar with all the correct holiday dates for the Seventh Biblical Month. Please check our page to view or download the calendar.
