Built by the Herodian kings 2,000 years ago to expand the Second Jewish Temple, which was constructed over the ruins of the First Temple built by King Solomon 3,000 years ago. The Bible first identifies this holy place as Mount Moriah, the site where Abraham followed the Divine command to bring his son Isaac. Centuries later, King David buys the area from the Jebusites to prepare for building the Temple, which is completed by his son Solomon.
