🔥 WHEN THE SHOFAR SOUNDS 🔥

The shofar isn’t background music.

It’s a signal.

📯 A sound of assembly.
📯 A sound of warning.
📯 A sound announcing the King.
📯 A sound that says: Get ready—Yahweh is moving.

At Sinai, the people didn’t simply see the mountain covered in smoke—they heard the sound of the trumpet growing louder and louder as God descended upon the mountain (Exodus 19:16–19).

That sound meant something:

THE KING IS HERE.

And the biblical story ends with trumpet imagery again.

«“For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable…”
—1 Corinthians 15:52»

The same Bible that gives us the trumpet at the mountain gives us the trumpet at resurrection.

From Sinai to the return of the King, the sound points beyond ordinary life toward the supernatural reality behind the biblical story.

Maybe that’s why the shofar feels so primal.

It doesn’t sound polished.

It sounds like war.
It sounds like awakening.
It sounds like a summons.

And one day, Scripture says, there will be a trumpet sound that nobody sleeps through.

📯 THE KING IS COMING.

👑 WHERE DOES THE BIBLE SAY GOD WAS KING?
Someone recently asked me whether Israel’s kingship was simply political—or whether God was actually supposed to be their King.
The story starts all the way back in Eden. 🌿
📖 Genesis 1:26–28 — God creates humanity in His image and gives them dominion. Humanity was created to represent God’s rule on earth—to rule under His authority, not replace Him.
Then comes the Exodus. 🌊
After Yahweh delivers Israel through the sea, Israel sings:
👑 “Yahweh reigns as King forever and ever.”
—Exodus 15:18
Think about that: before Saul, before David, before Israel ever had a human king—Yahweh was already King.
And Scripture keeps making it clear:
⚔️ “Yahweh will rule over you.”
—Judges 8:23
Then Israel demands a king “like all the nations.”
Yahweh responds:
💔 “They have rejected ME from being King over them.”
—1 Samuel 8:7
So Israel’s monarchy certainly had a political dimension—but biblically, it was never merely political.
And then the story reaches its climax. ✝️👑
Jesus arrives proclaiming:
🔥 “The Kingdom of God has come near.”
—Mark 1:15
He is welcomed as “the King” (Luke 19:38), and after His resurrection He declares:
🌎 “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.”
—Matthew 28:18
And Revelation gives us the destination:
👑🔥 “KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.”
—Revelation 19:16
🌿 Eden: humanity rules under God.
🌊 Exodus: Yahweh reigns as King.
💔 Israel: rejecting Yahweh means rejecting their King.
✝️ Jesus: the promised King arrives.
🔥 Revelation: the King reigns victorious.
From Eden to Exodus to Jesus, the biblical story is a Kingdom story.
👑 He is King. The question is: are we living like it? ❤️

👑 WHERE DOES THE BIBLE SAY GOD WAS KING?

Recently, someone asked me a question that got me thinking:

“Where does the Bible actually say that God was supposed to be Israel’s King? Wasn’t Israel’s kingship simply political?”

So I went back to the Scriptures. 📖

And instead of beginning with Israel’s human kings, I think we need to go further back.

All the way back to Eden. 🌿👑

📖 GENESIS 1:26–28 — GOD’S RULE AND HUMANITY’S CALLING

God creates humanity in His image and tells them to:

“Rule over” the creatures of the earth.

Humanity wasn’t created to replace God as King. Adam and Eve were created as God’s image-bearers—His representatives—exercising delegated rule under His authority.

Dr. Michael Heiser describes this as the dominion mandate. In The Unseen Realm, he describes humanity as God’s earthly representatives and even as “steward-kings over a global Eden under his authority.”

In other words:

👑 God is the sovereign King.
🌎 Humanity was created to represent His rule on earth.

But humanity rebelled, and the biblical story continued.

Then comes the Exodus. 🌊🔥

After Yahweh delivers Israel from Egypt and brings His people through the sea, Moses and Israel sing:

📖 “Yahweh is my strength and my defense;
he has become my salvation.”
—Exodus 15:2

And the song reaches this declaration:

👑🔥 “YAHWEH REIGNS AS KING FOR EVER AND EVER.”
—Exodus 15:18

Think about when this happens.

❌ No Saul yet.
❌ No David yet.
❌ No human monarchy in Israel yet.

And Israel is already singing:

YAHWEH IS KING. 👑

And Scripture keeps making the point.

📖 Deuteronomy 33:5 presents Yahweh as King in Jeshurun when the tribes of Israel are gathered.

Then in Judges 8:22–23, Israel approaches Gideon and says:

“Rule over us—you, your son and your grandson…”

But Gideon answers:

⚔️ “I will not rule over you, nor will my son rule over you. YAHWEH WILL RULE OVER YOU.”

Then comes 1 Samuel 8.

Israel demands:

“Appoint for us a king to judge us like all the nations.”

And Yahweh tells Samuel exactly what their request ultimately means:

💔👑 “They have not rejected you, but THEY HAVE REJECTED ME FROM BEING KING OVER THEM.”
—1 Samuel 8:7

That statement is hard to get around.

Was Israel’s request political?

Yes, it certainly had a political dimension.

But according to Scripture, it was not merely political.

Israel wanted to become “like all the nations,” while Yahweh was already their King.

Eventually God permitted Israel to have human kings.

And then something important happened.

⭐ THE DAVIDIC KING

God chose David and established a covenant with him.

📖 In 2 Samuel 7:12–16, God promises David a royal dynasty and speaks of a throne and kingdom that will ultimately endure.

From there, the biblical story begins looking forward to a coming Davidic Messiah—a King. 👑⭐

And then...

✝️👑 THE KING ARRIVES

Jesus begins His ministry proclaiming:

📖 “The time is fulfilled, and the KINGDOM OF GOD has come near. Repent and believe the good news!”
—Mark 1:15

Notice the language:

KINGDOM.

Jesus isn’t merely announcing a new religious philosophy.

He is announcing God’s Kingdom. 🔥

And Jesus himself is identified as the promised King.

When He enters Jerusalem, the crowd cries:

📖 “Blessed is THE KING who comes in the name of the Lord!”
—Luke 19:38

Then comes one of the great ironies of the Gospel story.

Jesus is crucified beneath a sign identifying Him as:

👑 “THE KING OF THE JEWS.”

What looks like the defeat of the King becomes part of God’s victory.

Jesus rises from the dead. ✝️🔥

And the risen Jesus declares:

📖 “ALL AUTHORITY IN HEAVEN AND ON EARTH has been given to me.”
—Matthew 28:18

That language should make us think back to the beginning.

🌿 Humanity was created to exercise delegated rule under God.

👑 Israel confessed Yahweh as King.

⭐ God promised a Davidic royal line.

✝️ Jesus arrives announcing God’s Kingdom.

🔥 Jesus rises victorious and possesses all authority in heaven and on earth.

And Revelation takes us to the destination:

👑🔥 “KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.”
—Revelation 19:16

The story that began in Eden ends with God’s kingdom victorious and His people dwelling and reigning with Him.

This fits the larger biblical storyline Heiser develops in The Unseen Realm: God desires to dwell with His human family and extend His rule through His image-bearers. After rebellion disrupts that purpose, God’s plan moves toward restoration through Christ and ultimately the restored creation—the Kingdom Already moving toward the Kingdom Not Yet.

So when somebody asks:

❓ “Where does the Bible say God was King?”

Don't look at only one verse.

Look at the story. 📖🔥

🌿 EDEN — Humanity is created to rule under God’s authority.

🌊 EXODUS — “Yahweh reigns as King forever and ever.”

👑 ISRAEL — Yahweh is Israel’s King.

⚔️ GIDEON — “Yahweh will rule over you.”

💔 1 SAMUEL 8 — Yahweh says Israel has rejected Him as King.

⭐ DAVID — God establishes the royal line through which the Messiah will come.

✝️ JESUS — The King arrives announcing the Kingdom of God.

🔥 RESURRECTION — “All authority in heaven and on earth” belongs to Him.

🌎 REVELATION — Jesus is revealed as KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.

And that's where this becomes personal. ❤️

It's one thing to say:

“I believe in God.”

It's another thing to say:

👑 “He is my King.”

Is He King over my decisions?

❤️ My relationships?

🧠 My thoughts?

💼 My work?

🏠 My home?

💰 My resources?

🌎 My entire life?

Because from Eden to Exodus, from David to Jesus, and ultimately to the new creation, Scripture keeps pointing us toward the same reality:

👑 GOD REIGNS.

And in Jesus, the King has come. ✝️👑🔥

“YAHWEH REIGNS AS KING FOR EVER AND EVER.”
—Exodus 15:18

“KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.”
—Revelation 19:16

❤️👑 He is King. The question is: are we living like it?
