EFF leader Julius Malema and his wife Mantwa Matlala are reportedly living apart, with Matlala having moved into an apartment in Bryanston, north of Johannesburg.
Sources say the separation has been ongoing since 2025, but the couple maintain a united front at public events due to Malema’s legal proceedings.
Malema recently attended pre-sentencing at the East London Magistrate’s Court after being convicted of firing a firearm in public at a 2018 EFF rally. The court heard that no one was harmed, and a custodial sentence could significantly affect his family.
They continue to prioritise privacy while appearing together at select gatherings.
