Israel is one of the most developed countries in terms of caring for the elderly people, however, high prices for housing and living expenses are forcing many pensioners to move from rented apartments to hostels. This is especially true for those who could not accumulate a pension in Israel and were forced to apply for social aid from the national insurance. Of course, many of these grandparents are immigrants, those who left the former USSR at a retirement age and were unable to build a new career in their historical Homeland. Living in an Israeli hostel is completely different from nursing homes. In fact, these are just inexpensive small apartments, with their own kitchen and bathroom, but, nevertheless, this is not enough. Mature age, at times, not only claims their former beauty and health, but also the opportunity to fully take care for themselves, to prepare hot meals. Return to Zion Ministry, which has long supported the needy residents of Haifa and the Suburbs with food baskets, has taken the initiative to provide elderly immigrants living in two city hostels with weekly hot meals. But while the preparations are undergoing and the quarantine rules are tightening every day, our team decided to reach out to the hostel residents with small food gifts for the winter holidays.
