At East Jerusalem International Church we have found great comfort and encouragement in praying the words of the Church Triumphant. Here is one of our favourites from the 6th century Saint, Barsanuphius of Gaza.

Join us for Sunday service from 10:30 - 11:30. All are welcome!

Prayer for the Oppressed — from Barsanuphius of Gaza (6 Century)

“O Christ our God, do not despise the oppressed, nor turn away from the brokenhearted. Remember those who are bowed down in the dust, who groan beneath unjust burdens. Have mercy on them, deliver them from those who afflict them, and stretch out your hand to lift them up. May your power be their refuge, your justice their defender, and your mercy their comfort. For you, O Lord, are the hope of the hopeless, the helper of the helpless, the liberator of the captives, and the defender of the poor. Amen.”

— Based on Barsanuphius, Letter 167 (PG 79:181C–D)

On Sunday we gathered to worship, pray, break bread, and study the Word.

Our texts for the day, as scheduled for Transfiguration Sunday, were:
Exod 34:29–35; Psalm 99; 2 Cor 3:12–4:2; Luke 9:28–43a

Our prayer came from St Clement of Rome (101 AD):

"We beseech You, Master, to be our helper and protector.
Save the afflicted among us; have mercy on the lowly;
Raise up the fallen; appear to the needy; heal the ungodly;
Restore the wanderers of Your people;
Feed the hungry; ransom our prisoners;
Raise up the sick; comfort the faint-hearted."

Next Sunday, as per usual, we will be meeting from 10:30-11:30 am. All are welcome!

Yesterday we gathered to worship, pray, break bread, and study the Word. We also remembered the life and legacy of Andrew Durrheim.

Our texts for the day, as scheduled for the Seventh Sunday After the Epiphany, were:
Genesis 45:3–15; Psalm 37:1–11, 39–40; 1 Corinthians 15:35–50; Luke 6:27–38

Our prayer for the day came from Ephrem the Syrian (d. 373):
"Lord, the night is dark, but You are my Light.
My soul is weary, but You are my Rest.
I have wandered far, yet You call me home.
How can I repay You, O Lord of Mercy?
Your grace is my refuge, Your love my hope.
Teach me to walk in Your ways
And to trust in Your boundless compassion.
Amen."

Next Sunday, as per usual, we will be meeting from 10:30-11:30 am. We will also be taking the Eucharist together and sharing a potluck lunch after the service. All are welcome!

Yesterday we gathered to worship, pray, break bread, and study the Word.

Our texts for the day, as scheduled for the Sixth Sunday After the Epiphany, were:

Jeremiah 17:5–10; Psalm 1; 1 Corinthians 15:12–20; Luke 6:17–26

Our prayer for the day came from Barsanuphius of Gaza (d. 545):

"O Lord, merciful and compassionate, look upon Your servants who suffer in poverty and distress. You who fed the multitudes in the wilderness, provide for those who lack food and shelter. You who healed the sick and comforted the sorrowful, strengthen those who are burdened by illness, loneliness, and despair. Teach us, O Lord, to see Your image in the poor, to serve them with humility and love, and to give freely, expecting nothing in return. For all goodness comes from You, and to You belongs all glory, now and forever. Amen."

Next Sunday, as per usual, we will be meeting from 10:30-11:30 am, with coffee and ka'ek al-Quds to follow. All are welcome.

Last week, East Jerusalem International Church came together to do something extraordinary—pick olives. On Saturday and Sunday, families and friends gathered under the shade of ancient trees, harvesting olives that have stood the test of time, much like our faith and resilience.

In a season overshadowed by war and uncertainty, the simple act of working side by side reminded us of God’s promise to bring beauty out of ashes. It wasn’t just about gathering olives; it was about building community, laughing together, and sharing stories while our hands worked the branches.

After the harvest, we took the olives to Beit Sahour to be pressed, a powerful moment as we saw olive oil flowing from what we had gathered. Even more meaningful was knowing that our olives were mixed with harvests from farmers near Bethlehem. Despite the physical wall separating us, the blending of olives became a beautiful reminder that the current turmoil is not the end of the story.

Thank you to everyone who came out, worked hard, and reminded us all of the hope we have in Him. Let’s keep pressing forward, together.
