One of the Five Marks of Mission of the Anglican Communion of which the COI is a part is to "Strive to safeguard the integrity of creation, and sustain and renew the life of the earth."
In our Aughaval Parishes - Westport & Dugort, Castlebar, Turlough parishes, as across the Dioceses of Tuam, Limerick & Killaloe and the Church of Ireland, we are striving to do our small part in protecting biodiversity and renewing the life of the earth.
The 'Havens for Nature' book, which can be borrowed from any of our churches, is helpful, practical and informative in this regard.
If you are interested in getting more involved in this aspect of our work, and/or with Westport Eco-Congregation, please get in touch.
You can read about the fifth mark here:
"The fifth mark articulates the ecological dimension of mission, widening the circle of responsibility to its furthest extent. Formally added in 1990, this mark reflects a mature theological understanding that God’s redemptive plan is cosmic in scope. It calls human beings to their divinely appointed role as stewards of the earth, presenting environmental care not as a secular agenda but as an integral component of faithfulness to the Creator God."

The All-Ireland Pollinator Plan is a framework bringing together different sectors across the island of Ireland to create a landscape where pollinators can survive and thrive. Its implementation is coordinated by the National Biodiversity Data Centre.
