Psalm 20
A psalm of David.

1 In times of trouble, may the Lord answer your cry.
May the name of the God of Jacob keep you safe from all harm.
2 May he send you help from his sanctuary
and strengthen you from Jerusalem.[a]
3 May he remember all your gifts
and look favorably on your burnt offerings. Interlude

4 May he grant your heart’s desires
and make all your plans succeed.
5 May we shout for joy when we hear of your victory
and raise a victory banner in the name of our God.
May the Lord answer all your prayers.

6 Now I know that the Lord rescues his anointed king.
He will answer him from his holy heaven
and rescue him by his great power.
7 Some nations boast of their chariots and horses,
but we boast in the name of the Lord our God.
8 Those nations will fall down and collapse,
but we will rise up and stand firm.

9 Give victory to our king, O Lord!
Answer our cry for help.

The Scarlet Thread. Part 2 - Significance of the thread.
Text: Joshua 2:12-21

Rahab sort to secure the lives of her family and her own by the act of kindness she had shown the spies. Joshua 2:12-14

The spies gave specific instructions to Rahab regarding the scarlet Thread and every member of her family. Joshua 2: 17-20

Having read these verses, I could not help but reflect upon the significance of the scarlet thread.

a. The scarlet thread was to show her faith in the spies so that when the siege against Jericho takes place, Rahab and her family will be saved.

b. The scarlet thread represents blood, a sign of redemption. Joshua 2:17-20.
It represents the Blood of Jesus which was shed to take away the sins of the world, redeeming us from the law of sin and death. John 1:29. Hebrews 9:22.
This representation of the redeeming blood was also done by Abraham by his willingness to sacrifice Isaac. The Israelites in Egypt - they had smeared the door posts and lintel with the blood of the lamb, when the LORD passed through the land smiting the firstborns. Exodus 12:22-23.

c. Atonement: The Blood of Jesus is the atonement for our sins. Leviticus 17:11 Romans 5:10-11.
Cleanses: The Blood of Jesus cleanses us for all our sins. 1John 1:7
It is an everlasting covenant.

Rahab had secured their salvation and eternal destiny by a simple act of bravery, faith and obedience.

You and I can do the same by confessing our sins and yielding to the Lordship of Jesus Christ. Likewise, we appropriate the redeeming power of the Blood of Jesus when we take communion daily.

The Scarlet Thread. Part 1
Rahab, Act of Bravery.

Text: Joshua 2:1-11

Why did...
a. God choose Rahab?
b. Rahab hide the spies?

The fame of the supernatural acts of the hand of God in the deliverance of the Israelites from Egypt, the defeat of Sihon, king of the Amorites and Og, king of Bashan had spread, filling the nations with awe and dread.

Rahab in her quiet moments must have pondered about this God of the Israelites, who He is and all He had done. This may have awakened her spirit to yearn for God. God saw a willing heart. Thus God ordered the steps of the spies to her door.

Jericho was a fortified city, her walls impenetrable. The people believed and trusted in the fortification but Rahab knew that her(Jericho) fall was imminent. She broke security protocols through her singular act of bravery , by hiding the 2 Israelite spies, putting her life and family at the risk of death.

I thought to myself, could I have been brave like Rahab, risking all?

Is my life held secure in the walls of the things I have, people, intelligence, science, the world or in God?
