Through Holy Week four events happened for children in our diocese. We started with the Confirmation Retreat in Waterford over the Palm Sunday weekend. 43 children and young people came from all over the diocese to learn, worship and have fun together.

On Tuesday a group of 24 children gathered in Enniscorthy and Monart Union of Parishes for Easter Messy Church. On Good Friday a group of 43 gathered in Leighlin Cathedral Group for Easter Messy Church and today another group of 29 met in Tullow Group of Parishes for their Easter Workshop. In total 139 children gathered in four places to hear the story of Holy Week and engage in church in a different way.

Those of us involved are tired, but so happy to have shared this very special time with the children of the Diocese of Cashel, Ferns and Ossory!

He is risen indeed! Alleluia!

This afternoon 29 children met in Littlewood Hall in Tullow Group of Parishes for an afternoon of Easter fun, activities, games, stories, song, dinner, an egg hunt and worship. It was a terrific experience and I was glad to be there to see the hard work of Margaret, Rev Maria and the brilliant team of volunteers.

This morning 43 children (and quite a few adults!) gathered in St Laserian’s Cathedral Leighlin Cathedral Group to learn more about Holy Week through crafts and games. It was a wonderful event. Thanks to Dean Mairt and the team of volunteers who organised the Messy Church event. It was a pleasure to be involved ☺️

It was lovely to see some new faces but also to see many children we’ve met before in other churches and other children’s faith events. It’s great to know that children are enjoying this different experience of church!

Another super diocesan residential ☺️ Over the Palm Sunday weekend lots of volunteer adults from around our diocese came together (not all are pictured below) to facilitate a three day Confirmation Retreat. Some of our adult team stayed for the entire weekend, some had scheduled sessions at stages and some dropped in. An event like this is a huge responsibility and a great resource for confirmation candidates in the diocese. It’s not possible without the commitment, passion and skills of the leader team.

At the end of the weekend, with the car packed and looking forward to a good night’s (undisturbed! 😉) sleep, it’s a good time to reflect and thank all of the adults who make children and youth events possible.

There are three children’s events around the diocese this Holy Week. All are local events which are open to our children across the diocese. Enniscorthy and Monart Union of Parishes are holding Easter Messy Church on Tuesday, Leighlin Cathedral Group are holding Easter Massy Church on Good Friday and Tullow Group of Parishes are holding their Easter Workshop on Saturday!

Last year Diocese of Cashel, Ferns and Ossory offered small grants to parishes to help with children’s ministry. Lots of parishes applied and received financial support. Enniscorthy and Monart Union of Parishes used a grant to provide fidget bags in their churches. The bags have been very popular and now they’re planning to create more!

Missing from the photo are ear defenders also contained in the bags! ☺️🎧

This weekend 35 young people from across the Diocese of Cashel, Ferns and Ossory have gathered for their weekend confirmation retreat. Diocesan Youth Officer Rev Ger James and Chaplain Canon Nicola Halford and a team of adult volunteers are leading the confirmands through a number of confirmation topics and fun activities in Newtown School. The kids met at 2pm this afternoon and will be together until Monday afternoon.
