A Book of Condolences has been opened in Christ Church Cathedral, Waterford, today for the People of Gaza.

Donations can be made to the relief work currently being carried out by Medecins Sans Frontiers (Doctors Without Borders) in Gaza. As of last night, 1,900 people are dead and 40,000 are injured as a result of the bombardment; of which 20 percent are children.

The book will remain open for 20 days (until 31 August) and will be presented to the Palestinian Consulate in Dublin, with a copy sent to the Israeli Embassy.

The cathedral is open Monday to Saturday from 10 am - 5 pm.

The Discovery Gospel Choir have just finished rehearsal and preparations are almost complete for an incredible afternoon concert. It's totally free so come along to Christ Church for 3pm.

Another event in a packed musical schedule this weekend takes place on Sunday afternoon at 3pm. The Discovery Gospel Choir, described as 'fantastic' by Archbishop Desmond Tutu, perform with the Trinity Gospel Choir - the choir of the Twin Cathedrals - a diverse and joyous collection of music. This event is also free and we'd be delighted to welcome you into the Cathedral.

We've got a marvellous double bill of music this coming Saturday, and both events are free to the public.

At 1pm a recital will be given on the magnificent and historic Eliot-Jones Organ by Mr David Connolly. This is a thrilling opportunity to hear a wonderfully-talented musician play this unique instrument, which President Higgins specifically requested to hear played upon his recent visit to the Cathedral.

At 7:30 Saturday evening, there will be an a ca****la concert of music for the Christian journey performed by a touring Amish Mennonite group from the USA. Oasis Chorale have developed a large and dedicated following and take their celebrated and uplifting vocal talents to the Cathedral for one-night-only.

Things are a little calmer in the Cathedral today after the excitement of a presidential visit last week. We were, of course, deeply honoured to receive President & Mrs Higgins on Friday and to have an opportunity to promote the history and beauty of Waterford. His Excellency's visit to the Twin Cathedrals was a welcome boost to the city, in opposition to a pervasive negativity nationwide.
