Church of Ireland, Anglican Communion, Porvoo Communion Episcoplalian Within the Church grounds sits the oldest graveyard in town with over 1000 recorded burials and the oldest landmark

The grave of Christopher Emmet grandfather of the Irish patriot Robert Emmet is located in the grounds. The grave of Ellen O’Leary Poet, and sister of the Fenian John O’Leary is located in the grounds. There has been a military connection with St Mary’s as far back as the 1780 it was a garrison church. There are 9 Commonwealth war graves and 11 other military related graves dating 1880 – 1920

The church will be open June, July, and August Thursday until Saturday 2.00pm until 5.00pm

Heritage week starts this Saturday 16th August St Mary’s Church of Ireland Tipperary Town will be open from 3pm to 5pm Saturday 15th To Saturday 22nd
St Mary's Church is the oldest landmark in Tipperary Town, there is evidence to support the fact that a Church has been on the site for over 700 years.

It is the oldest graveyard in Tipperary Town with burials dating back to the 1700s.We will have displays round the church featuring some of the interesting / unusual snippets of history.

During the week assistance will be available to help research with ancestral history through church and other records.

Discover our unusual link to Ned Kelly, Visit the grave of Robert Emmet’s grandfather. There is a long standing relationship with the local Abbey school.
