Amid the frenetic pace of today’s world we need to cultivate a still point within us, where we can have an abiding sense of the divine presence when we return to the busy-ness of life. “I am serene for I have built- A chapel in my heart, - A silent sheltered citadel – A separate place apart.” ( Katherine N. Davis).

Today we celebrate the feast of Corpus Christi and in our reading from 1 Cor. 10.16 we are likened to grain of wheat that have been brought together to form one loaf - to form the Body of Christ. As one body, we strive to become living witnesses of God’s desire to bring all peoples and nations into one family. As the word “Christians” suggest, our identity finds its deepest roots in Christ. The Eucharist draws us into Jesus’ way of living love and teaches us how to share. “Without love, deeds, even the most brilliant, count as nothing”(St Therese of Lisieux, Carmelite)

Many beautiful things in life are too expensive for most of us to buy, but the beauty of creation is there for all of us – free for the taking. We cannot help but give thanks for this amazing gift.

Please join us in praying for all the young people who are navigating the currents of exams and career choices at this time. Help them to keep calm at this time, so that they can think straight and apply themselves to the best of their ability. May they come to know that there is ONE who LOVES them before and beyond any exam results. Amen.

There is a beautiful icon of the Blessed Trinity written by a monk called Rublev. It depicts the three Divine Persons sitting at a table with dishes of food on it. At the front of the table there is an empty place and this is meant to convey openness, hospitality and welcome to the stranger and outsider. The empty place is meant for each of us, for all the human family. God invites us to come and sit with him because he wants to share his life with us. When we journey towards God by the road of love and respect, the way we travel assures us of our destination, encouraged along by the Blessed Trinity.

We sit together like buttercups in our monastery garden. The little wildflowers seem to shine with a golden magic as they track the sun and collect solar energy to warm the petals so as to make them more inviting for insects. We thank the Creator for life’s simple blessings and the beauty of these resilient little wildflowers.

Today the reading for Pentecost Sunday from Acts of Apostles Ch.2.1. shows us a group of dispirited followers of Jesus who have locked themselves into a room. They are afraid. Jesus had promised his followers, “You will receive power -- the Holy Spirit will empower you to be my witnesses.” The Holy Spirit would help them, but wouldn’t do it for them. We too need someone to empower us so that we are able to take charge of our lives, live them responsibly and witness to our Christian faith.
Come, Holy Spirit, with your empowering love and positively shape our attitudes towards all creation.
“The power of the powerless consists not in clever political strategies but in the simple daily discipline of living the truth and refusing to lie.” (Vaclav Havel)

Rhododendron, you fill a corner of our garden now that you are in full bloom. There you nod in the May breeze like a pink sunrise.
Stop. look, see them while they last. It is show to uplift any heart. Alleluia!
