It’s exam season. Preparation is over and right now young people’s emotions are running high. Take comfort from the word of God today.

Proverbs 16:3-4 - Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and He will establish your plans.
The LORD works out everything to its proper end…

The Hebrew word commit is “gālal” - meaning “roll”. In context it means to roll your burdens onto the Lord, portraying a complete dependence on God. Rolling your worries, your stress and pressures onto God and trusting in the sovereignty of Christ; His plan and purpose for your life!

Whatever you do, keep this in mind, remembering that the Lord’s burden is light and His yoke is easy. Don’t carry burdens that you were never meant to carry. God will establish your plans. Trust in God and commit your exams, and your plans into His all sufficient, omnipotent hands and He will work out everything to its proper end.

Does this mean that Christians can sit back and do nothing? Of course not. “We must maintain a delicate balance: trusting God as if everything depended on Him, while working as if everything depended on us”.

Moses trusted in the Lord when the pressure was on but he still had to stretch his hand out over the Red Sea and lead the people out of captivity.
Noah rolled his burdens onto the Lord but he worked over 50 years building the ark.
Tears were shed at the tomb of Lazarus but burdens rolled away when Jesus commanded the people to roll the stone aside and shouted “Lazarus, come out”. The people had a part to play and Lazarus had to walk out from that tomb of despair.
The early church committed everything to Jesus in prayer but they had to add steps to their prayers in order to witness the plans of the Lord established.

If we truly commit everything to the Lord, not superficially, or temporarily, or without playing our part. The weight upon our shoulders is lightened, enabling us to walk freely in the unforced rhythms of God’s grace.

Preparation is good but it’s the Lord who grants the victory over every battle that we face (Proverbs 21:31). Whatever you face today - commit everything to Jesus and remain committed to Him who has great things in store for your life!

In the busyness of work, ministry, and life don’t forget to go home and bless your own family.
Christians are blessed by God to be a blessing to others. Leaving a trail of blessings (not destruction) wherever our feet touch the ground. But if we arrive home more often than not with nothing left in the tank to bless our own families, then we need to make changes, and quickly. Whether you’re a mother, father, son, daughter, brother or sister - you are to be a blessing to your own family.

This week’s weather has been unusually spectacular. On one of the days when I had a lot on my plate my kids asked me would I do a BBQ that evening and play with them. I thought to myself - I really don’t have the time for this today but then a verse that blessed me from the Bible that morning triggered a different response. I chose to be a blessing to my family that evening and the kids smiles and laughter proved it was the right call!
God will always be first in my life but family is something which God has entrusted to every parent and what we do in the family home can be some of the most amazing and impactful ministry we will ever do. Yet, we have to bless from a place of blessing, the source of blessing - Jesus!

There is a verse in 1 Chronicles 16 that I think most people miss. David is busy getting everything ready and organised for the ark of the covenant. Then in v43 we read this - “David turned and went home to bless his own family”.
It doesn’t say he begrudgingly turned and went home or when he was completely exhausted he decided to go home and complain about his day, shouting and moaning throughout the house. No, David chose to go home from a place of blessing (God’s presence) in order to be a blessing to those closest to him, a family entrusted to him by God.

Church doesn’t interfere with family. It’s a place where blessings are imparted into our lives and overflow out to everyone around us, including our families.

If we are blessing everyone else but not our families then we have got it wrong!

Are you leaving a trail of blessings or destruction in your home?
Are you blessing from a place of blessing?
Do you know the source of true blessings?
