Knock Parish Council was saddened to learn of the passing our our former curate here in Knock, Fr Frank Fahey, who served in Knock from 1975 until 1986, before his appointment to Ballintubber Abbey where he has ministered since.

Fr Fahey worked here during a time of great change and development in Knock under Monsignor James Horan, alongside the other curate at the time, Fr Paddy Mooney. He was present for the construction and opening of the Basilica in July 1976 and the Papal visit of Pope John Paul II in September 1979. In additional to his pastoral care of the Parish, his main focus was the development of the Family Life Centre at Knock, initially founded with Sr Angela Salmon, and then later he worked alongside Monica Morley. Together they promoted this wonderful resource for families all over Ireland. During his brief visit to Knock, Pope John Paul II lit a specially commissioned candle in the Shrine, dedicated to family life in Ireland.

To this day, Fr Fahey is fondly remembered by locals who were schoolchildren at that time, in both Knock and Coogue National Schools and many will have great memories of the school tours to Westport House and Dublin Zoo, in addition to his many visits to the school to prepare the children for the sacraments.

In a poignant coincidence, Fr Fahey left Knock 40 years ago this weekend.
Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis. 🙏

𝐅𝐨𝐥𝐤 𝐆𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐩 𝐑𝐞𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐨𝐧

On Friday, June 12th there will be a reunion evening held in St John’s Rest & Care Centre for all those who were part of Knock Parish Folk Group.

Over the years members enjoyed so many great experiences of singing together at Masses as well as going on pilgrimages to Taize and other centres of prayer. It is hoped this evening will be an opportunity to look back and to give thanks for it all.

All who were part of the group at any stage will be very welcome. Mass begins at 8pm followed by tea and refreshments (and some singing too, no doubt!!)

Pope Leo XIV’s insistence on peace in the world continues to be expressed also through his constant call to prayer.

At the conclusion of the Marian month, on Saturday, May 30, the Holy Father will preside over the recitation of the Holy Rosary at the Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes in the Vatican Gardens.
On this occasion, all the Shrines of the world will be invited to unite, together with their pilgrims and faithful, in prayer with the Holy Father.

Knock Shrine is honoured to join the Rosary live with His Holiness at 6pm Irish Time (7pm in Rome) in the Apparition Chapel on Saturday evening.

Knock Parishioners are asked to come along.
