Thought for the day, Friday 27th January - Holocaust Memorial Day

“For the survivor who chooses to testify, it is clear: his duty is to bear witness for the dead and for the living. He has no right to deprive future generations of a past that belongs to our collective memory. To forget would be not only dangerous but offensive; to forget the dead would be akin to killing them a second time.”

Elie Wiesel, Holocaust survivor

A Poem by Geoff Cooper, a friend of Nancy Klein who used to attend Limerick Unitarian Services:

Lord, the world you provided for us is confused. We seek to understand what is happening at present. There is a sense of being bereft. We need to learn more of your purpose as we practice this strange custom of social distancing.

There is so much we need to praise: the fact that despite us, the world still revolves, that there is food on the table, birds sing and flowers bloom. Today, there are no clouds in the sky and the rain has stopped.

In this time of crisis, give us discipline. We are not easily satisfied with isolation and often lack patience.

Particularly, we seek protection for the lonely, those who are scared, those most vulnerable.

We give praise for those working selflessly for us. Intervene to keep them safe: the medical personnel, the scientists researching solutions for our protection, for all those enabling key workers to stay at work. It is now that we begin to realise on whom we really depend in a shallow world.

Finally, we are grateful, individually and collectively, for the peace and comfort of our homes, for the security and the love we find there, for family and friends no matter how far apart.

Amen

We aren't meeting now, due to very low numbers, but if you are Unitarians, as members or in your heart, let's continue to be with our fellow mankind with compassion, love, community-spirit and practical connectivity to reduce the generalised anxiety that always tends to prevail living with uncertainty. Please take Good Care of Yourselves! 🙏
Special wishes to the Dublin, Cork and Belfast Unitarian Church communities, the Newburyport, Ma., and Providence, R. I. Unitarians Church communities

Sadly, we have agreed to not hold further Unitarian services as our group is too small to make it viable to continue at this time. This Profile will be kept open for the time being if anyone wishes to contact this administrator.
We've had a good run and experienced many types of addresses from people of other faiths, countries and backgrounds. It has been fulfilling and stimulating on emotional, intellectual and spiritual levels. I'd like to especially thank Reverend Bridget Spain of St. Stephen's Dublin Unitarian Church and her husband, Paul, for their guidance& support and services , Reverend Michael O'Sullivan of Princess St. Cork Unitarian Church for all of his many services in his early days, Dr.Martin Pulbrook for his academic & choral prowess and knowledge, challenging so many of traditional Christian thought/dogma ,and Pamela McCarthy for her easy wisdom and both reflective and interesting services over these years. Also, a Big thanks to anyone who has led a service or participated along with us... won't name you now, but you know who you are!!! We've had good laughs, great support, challenging learnings and a wonderful few years, functioning out of the primary Educate Together school, LSP, to the more recent"home" at the UL Contemplative Centre... We are also most grateful for being able to be in such a spiritual venue over this period.
Again, please feel free to contact this administrator should you have any questions or shall I daresay, wish to discuss a new beginning in the future...
